Korean genealogy book upload?

My stepfather has a book that lists generations of his family going back centuries. He has a pdf of the book but it is too large to upload to Family Search. Is there something else he can do to attach it to his family tree?

    Hi there

Thank you for your question and one suggestion is that you could donate the book and then add it as a source using a link to the book of the person in your Ancestral line. Then if you add the source to your source box it can easily be attached as a source to further people in your Ancestral line.

By the way how big is the file we are discussing?

    What are your thoughts @Paul W @Kerrebee 😊

Such a great treasure to have on Korean genealogy.

This article for donating a book is found in the help center located at the top right of the FamilySearch screen. It looks like a circle with question mark. Here is a link below.

    We hope that this helps.

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patrons ...

And, I am certainly no expert; especially, with regards to "Memories" ...

    Just a thought ...

What about, "Breaking", the PDF Copy of the "Book" up, into its individual pages?

May be a task; but, worth the effort.

That way, you can "Load", the individual pages, eventually the whole "Book", onto "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

You can "Load" that, in the "Memory" of one individual/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'; and, then, "Tag" as many of those as can, you from there.

    Again, just a (passing) thought.

I hope this may help, somewhat.

    Brett

    @suzanneelizabethbates1 and @MiriamJoyce21

Sorry, but I don't have experience in this area. Fortunately, when I encountered a similar situation I found the book (dealing with a branch of my ancestry) was publicly available through different sources. All I needed to do was add details to the Sources sections of the ancestors mentioned, including the URL direct link to this PDF document.

If the document in question has copyright restrictions or is otherwise difficult to access, I would not have a solution to the problem, I'm afraid.

The pdf file could be uploaded as a Community text to the Internet Archive (Archive.org)

    See https://archive.org/details/opensource&tab=about

There is a section "Click here to contribute your book!"

Then in FamilySearch Sources you could give the URL for the uploaded book, as mentioned by Paul W.

there are ways to both COMPRESS and SPLIT PDF files - so they will be under the 15 MB limit

ILOVEPDF offers these two options for FREE:

    Hello Susanne,

We suggest you may wish add the book as an outside source, and then note page numbers when connecting the source to individuals.  You can add the publisher, and the description when creating the source. The article link below may be useful.

    Good luck with your project.

the best thing is to SPLIT or COMPRESS the PDF - so that you can indeed preserve the document within FS.

As long as copyright is not an issue - you can upload a new version of your pdf that is under the 15MB limit

Thanks! This is very helpful. There are three volumes with 15 generations. It's 112 mb and it is not copyrighted. Is there someone at the Family History center who speaks Korean who could help him with this?

very few of us who are answering quetsions here - are actually AT the Family HIstory Center.

The first task is to SPLIT that pdf file into sub-component of 15MB or less. (using services like ILOVEPDF)

Let me know of any specific questions you have - I will be happy to help.

also you indeed may wish to donate the submission (as one complete pdf - - using the link that the first responder posted - - but independent of that (which may take a lot of time) you shoudl still proceed to split the pdf into less than 15MB pieces - so that it indeed can be uploaded ALSO to FS Memories.

Looks like Family Search is going to add the book to its collections. We are going to work on getting it split into smaller files and uploaded as well. I appreciate all the feedback!
