Slow updating

Hi

My father just recently passed away and in his effects we found his log in for the site so I was checking what he had up for our families genealogy and such and noticed a typo he made on my brothers records. He had 1964 as the birth year rather then 1974. So I clicked his name in the recent view list and then clicked person and updated the year and it updated fine but in the recent viewed list it still shows 1964 even though when I click his name it shows 1974.

See below a screen shot of the list the list shows 1964 but when his name is clicked on it shows 1974 which is the proper year. How long does it take for the recently viewed list to update so the correct date is shown in the list?

Refresh your screen to see the change.

The behavior you see is normal in Family Tree. It is very often the case, but not always. It was probably adopted to reduce the workload on the FamilySearch systems. It may or may not still be required. However it is still working like this so it must be dealt with.

The root cause it that Family Tree does not programmatically Refresh the screen after data displayed on the screen is updated in memory. The solution is to do the Refresh manually. Most browsers have a Refresh icon on the top bar, at the left, of all windows. It is a broken circle with arrow indicating clockwise, or forward, movement. Use your browser help or an internet search to find it.

Some develop a habit to refresh after any update. Some do it only when they need to verify the update. Some, like me, don't always do it just after an update. They just keep working until they say "that can't be true ... oh yes, I need to Refresh.

I duplicated the problen you discribed, and it was solved with one Refresh.

If you want me to look closer, you must describe your problem in much more detail. Don't give the information above again. Tell me what you do on each step of your procedure. Give me the id and collection name. With that I look at it again.

That is normal. Sometimes names and dates in the Recents list update hours or even a day or two later.

Have you solved this problem yet? Family Search often has problems with the system like this if you don't clear your cookies on the computer in Family Search. Try going to the URL address space, clear it out and type in: familysearch.org/cookies. Then click, "Yes" you want to reset your cookies. See if that will help with the problem that will not work. It will log you out, so if you don't have your father's password and user name to get back in, be aware that it will sign you out of Family Search. If you don't want to use his computer, try using another one and go in and make the birth change on it.

How do I delete cookies from FamilySearch?

Go to Family Search and click on the circle with the question mark in it, go to the Help Center, and you will find this article that will give you more information.
