1850 US Census added to incorrect persons
KDMV-NDS The worker who attached this Census made errors for this person and his family which caused family connections to be disrupted. The entry is quite complicated. I stumbled upon it while checking for sealings that needed to be done for the family. See the actual relationships as they are.
The 1850 US Census attached as a source has a number of immediate and extended members of Jess Clark's family. Details are listed here.
The 1850 US Census of Jesse Clark's immediate and extended family members are listed together.
Jesse Clark is the oldest.
Catherine Clark is his daughter born 1796.
Sarah A Clark is Sarah Ann Seybold who is Robert Clark's wife. (Robert Clark was one of Jesse Clark's sons who died in 1845.) Jesse C Strong and his wife Eliza Bruin are listed. (He is related through the marriage of his cousin, William Strong, to a different member of the Clark family.
John, Martha and Jesse Clark are the children of Robert Clark.
It took me 3 days to straighten the family out again. Only one child hasn't already been sealed to her parents.
Please provide some quality control when sources are attached.
And please, do not offer source suggestions unless they match up. This was also a complicating factor in the errors as they spread out through the family tree.

Hi @GardnerBetteAnn1
Thank you for bringing you concern to the Community. We looked at the Census record, and see that it indeed takes some research to figure out the family connections. Thank you for taking the time to be sure relationships make sense, and connected appropriately.
Jesse C. Strong is the Head of the household, as he is listed first, with his wife, Eliza, listed below him. You know by the age that Jessie Clark might be Eliza’s father, because the situation often happens. Unfortunately this particular census does not have much information, but it is useful because it documents where individuals are at that point in time, and the birthplace of each individual is helpful.
It takes several sources to complete the picture, the census is just one. You receive it because the names match up, but you, or another user, have to decide if it is for your family line.
We understand how frustrating it can be to make sure the source is accurate, but every little bit helps create a fuller picture.
We thank you for voicing your concern.
We wish you success in your work on Family Tree.

Hello, @GardnerBetteAnn1.
Thanks for working so hard to make sure that 1850 census was attached to the proper individuals!
Another thing to remember is that FamilySearch Family Tree is an open-edit, collaborative effort. Thus, each contributor is a "member" of the "quality assurance team," so-to-speak.
As stated in the knowledge article "What is the purpose of FamilySearch and Family Tree?" -
- This difference means that everyone works together on the same data, allowing for the potential to connect every member of the human family.
- Family Tree compares records and sources in order to help you resolve mistakes or duplication in records. It also provides messaging and collaboration tools, as well as free expert phone support, to help you resolve errors.
- Family Tree draws from FamilySearch's enormous database to provide record hints. This makes it easier to link you and your ancestors to earlier generations.
It is our hope that, through Family Tree, we can work together to create the best-sourced, public genealogical family tree in the world and allow family members to connect both in the past as well as the present.
As far as the record hinting feature - this is a computer software generated search conducted automatically. We, as users of the site, are expected to do three things with regard to the hints:
- Make sure that the record hint really is about your ancestor.
- Transfer any information that you want from the record hint to Family Tree. (On the website, you cannot currently replace information that is already in Family Tree with better information from the record. Instead, you will need to go into Family Tree and make those updates manually. You can replace information already in FamilyTree when attaching using the mobile Family Tree app.)
- Attach the record hint to your ancestors in Family Tree. This saves the record as a source to your ancestors' records in Family Tree.
Again, we commend you for your diligent efforts to make the records of your ancestors as accurate and complete as possible. And, we encourage you to keep up the good work -- including that "quality assurance" task that we all share.
