My father is listed twice with his name spelled incorrectly in one. Also incorrect is the gender.

Adla Thomas Smith is the correct spelling. The family always referred to him as A.T. which is used in some of the census records. He was born in 1919 in Lincoln county Kentucky. And died in Burlington Kentucky in 1998. His name is unusual and has therefore been misspelled as Adlai among others. His gender is M not F, and is therefore not the sister of my aunt Lottie. Can this be fixed? Thanks

    Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

I have found, one version of who you are referencing:

    Adlai T SMITH

Born: 29 October 1919, Waynesburg, Lincoln, Kentucky, United States

Died: 4 September 1998Burlington, Boone, Kentucky, United States

Being 'FamilySearch Person Identifier' (PID): L23Q-GS7

    https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/L23Q-GS7

Question: Is there ANOTHER version (PID) of him?

OR, is that the only version of him that you can 'see'?

    [ Please advise. ]

IF, such is the case, is it just the "Name" that you want CORRECTED.

[ ie. from "Adlai T. SMITH", to "Adla Thomas Smith" ]

IF, that is the case; THEN, you CAN do that Yourself.

    In fact, you should.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi Thomas

Yes, you can correct these errors. We were not successful in finding the female record of your dad, but did find the male record with PID L23Q-GS7. So here's what you can do.

1- On the female record, you can edit to change the gender. Depending on the relationships on that record, those may have to be removed first.

2- Once you have changed the gender, you can merge the two records.

3- Make any additional changes needed to your father's record.

Brett gave you links to some of the detailed instructions. Here is a link to the instructions for changing the gender and merging. Let us know if we can be of further help.
