US—City and Business Directories, 1749–1990 [Part C] [M347-K7T]

The fist group(?) of names begins 'Carlsbad, Bryant Clara Mrs'.

This could be Bryant Carlsbad and his wife , Mrs. Clara OR it could be Mrs Bryant Clara Carlsbad.

the third line is similar but with no 'Mrs' and the 'Carlsbad' indicated by dashes -------

The rest of the batch continues the same way - a surname followed by one or more other names set off with dashes.

Is there any way to be sure what the following names are?

Hello! This is a great question. It seems that this directory lists the cities first so first I would index the left margin and top of the page business names and my indexing effort would look like this:

    Entry 1 Kenrick – surname

    Entry 2 Bellamy – surname

Entry 3 Critchett, O A – surname and given name

Entry 4 Bryant, Clara Mrs. – Surname, given name and prefix

Entry 5 Crawford – surname possibly of the beauty parlor

Entry 6 Egger, Evelyn Mrs. – surname, given name and prefix

Entry 7 Bennie – surname possibly of the beauty Service

Entry 8 Roebuck, Cath Mrs. – surname, given name and prefix

    Entry 9 Sullivan, Helen, Mrs.

    Entry 10 Wells, Grace Mrs.

*Note Carrizozo is the city so

    Entry 11 Claunch, Eva A

    Entry 12 Johnson, Zula May

*Note Causey seems to be the city so

    Entry 13 Terral, D C Mrs.

And so forth. I hadn’t come across this kind of directory until this morning and it threw me off a little. We appreciate your hard work and for indexing and serving others. I hope this was helpful.

Edit: After reading what @DSIreland wrote, I will remove my comment. It is good that there are more than one set of eyes on these batches! I sure hope the reviewers catch on as DS did!

    Of Course!

You know when Columbus returned to Spain, the learned men were giving him a bad time. "What you did is not so great. Anyone could do it!"

So Chris challenged them to stand a hard-boiled egg on its small end on the table. No one could make it stay and told him it could not be done.

Whereupon Chis emptied the salt shaker on the table and stood the egg in it. "Once somebody shows you, it's simple.

    Many thanks!!!!!
