Indexing error on South Dakota schools records
These school records identify both parents but some have been indexed with the parents' names merged into one name. Should the "one" source record be attached twice, to each PID?

It is always good to attach the source to each person who is mentioned in the document. In your case where the parents were put together when the record was indexed, it would not line up for the focus person correctly, so the solution to this problem would be attach the document from the source box to each parent. Below are the articles found in the help center which would show you how to complete the process.

Hello, @dontiknowyou . I am so sorry for not understanding your question. You can "Edit" the indexed record by going to the Record Details page and clicking on "Edit". It will bring up the form to edit the information. In this case you can edit the parent field by putting in Joe only in the given name and follow the instructions and save. I have replicated on another record to see if I could go back and separately do the mother, but it would only allow me to edit Joe's name, so I believe that is why it was indexed with "or" between their names so both parents would be included when doing a search. As I am not able to see what the project instructions for indexing these records were, it is hard to tell if the instructions stated to index it in this manner. I am assuming that since the editing form only gives the option for one parent, then it is a possibility that the original indexing form only had one parent to fill in. The researcher would be able to see both parents when going to the record, but it is nice to also see both of their names listed when doing the search.
