Good day

How do I trace family that were born in Sarny, Wolyn Poland but the area now falls in the Ukraine.

I am trying to get birth certificates as well as marriage certificates.

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Colleen,

Welcome to the FamilySearch community. Thank you for your question.

We are delighted to assist you and have found information on how you can find links that pertain to your search. Below is an excerpt from a video presentation handout, which you can watch here

“Gazetteers and Maps by Marek Koblanski

Gazetteers: One of the most useful gazetteers for Prussia, or to be more specific, the area of Prussia, which lies within the borders of today’s Poland, which we can also call the area of Poland under the Prussian administration, is the “Gemeindelexikon für das Koenigreich Preussen” from around 1900.

Maps: I would highly recommend for everyone to spend some time on the web and search for the sites showing the maps of your main interest, and see which of them would work for you the best.”

This information was found in the article: https://familysearch.brightspotcdn.com/32/9e/b6f4a2a07f6d6bb2de2a049301ed/polish-records-sources-handout.pdf Clicking on this link will take you to the article where many more resources are explained.

I hope that I understood and provided information that answers your question. Thank you for using Community and we hope this link or the Help Centre provides the answers you seek.

If you need further help regarding this question, please reply directly to this answer/discussion.

I would like to thank you for your desire to seek out your ancestors and wish you joyful success as you do your family history work.
