What do I need to do to fix the “Permission Problem” so I can read your email?

    Unabletodisplay ,

I don't understand your question above. Please go to Q&A on the left side, choose the category:

Search=a question about historical records, Family Tree= questions about FamilyTree and sources, Indexing=questions about indexing.

Please re-post your question. The first post above is a little confusing.

    Thanks!

    I posted a question about the US1910Project.

I received a message stating RJGKennedy1 left me a response.

I clicked on the email I received telling me about the message RJGKennedy1

    left.

    the system responded:

    "Permission Problem

You don't have permission to do that."

Both my post and the response from RJGKennedy1

were gone before I could read the response.

@Unabletodisplay I tried to send a private message, but it looks like the guest who wrote about this problem made their user profile private, so communication options don't work. Hopefully they have solved the problem and asked their question in another place.

This nearly happened to me, but I managed to get to some of the replies in time.

Apparently, moderators have the option to move posts to private, behind-the-scenes support queus. What they apparently mostly fail to realize is that doing so renders not only the post, but also its replies immediately and completely inaccessible to mere mortal users of these forums.

If a moderator moves a post after a reply has been posted but before the original poster gets a chance to actually read said reply, then the situation described above occurs: the poster gets notified of a response that he/she doesn't have permission to see.

FS needs to SERIOUSLY rethink this process.

Elsewhere on the internet, material only "gets disappeared" if there is something extremely wrong with it: inexcusable offensiveness, breach of privacy, flagrant disregard of the terms of service, that sort of thing. Having a perfectly innocuous post disappear comes across as Not Friendly, to put it mildly.
