  • Well, sister, mother, or wife will have a pink profile photo area in a grey circle with a pink solid color circle next to the name.

And the brother, husband, or father will have a blue profile photo area in a grey circle with a blue solid colored square next to the name.

There is a reason that there are differet colored cameos in the tree. Each ancestor in the tree has a gender and the blue is for male and the pink for female. This caeo appears when the gender of an ancestor is delared. In most instances the blue cameo is on the top of the couple relationship or as a child.

In Family Search you have the opportunity to change the colored cameo to one of the ancestor whose record you are creating or one that has been found when you connect an ancestor to your tree.

PLease click on the links below to gt further information how you can change the colored cameo to a famiy member's onehttps://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-add-or-change-a-portrait-photo-in-family-tree

We do want you to know that you can change the photos as well to one you prefer. Jut click on the portrait and change it using the diretions above. We can tell you that some people will put pictures of other things for the portrain because they do not have in their records photos of the ancestor but prefer other images instead of the blue or pink cameo.

We hope this will assist you.

I've learned it is gender-specific. Sometimes a photo won't identify gender. However, the indicators colored pink and blue.

I can't help being amused by these rather dated-looking, stereotypical icons! However, with an element of guilt, I have to admit to finding them very helpful in their at-a-glance illustration of the individual's sex!

PS We forgot to tell you that all ancestors have the color shape by their picture. We tried in the Beta system to see if we changed a female to male if the dot would change, figuring it was an incorrect sex but the name as female and the square for her changed to blue. The dot and curcles are just a part of Family Search system.
