We appreciate the opportunity to answer your question. There are blank templates that you can print out, family group records, and pedigree charts. You can also print out auto-fill family group records, with or without sources and pedigree charts.
The following are references on how to find printable templates:
For a list of blank, printable forms that you can use for family history, see our wiki page about using appropriate forms .
Quick reference:
Note: You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed to print some of the forms. This can be done for free. Download Acrobat Reader .
To printout auto-filled family groups and pedigree charts, please click on the steps below:
- From within Family Tree on the FamilySearch website, find the person page of one of the parents in the family.
- If the Details section is not already open, click Details.
- If the person is attached to more than one spouse, scroll down the Family Members section, and click the Preferred checkbox for the spouse you want to print.
- Find the Print section on the right side of the screen, and click either Family or Family with Sources.
- In the Print section, you can also select to print the pedigree chart.
- On the PDF that displays, click the printer icon.
- Click Print.
- The chart opens as a PDF in a new tab. Use your browser's print feature to print it. If your computer has trouble with the PDF file, try clearing your cache and cookies or using a different browser. Use your browser's print feature to print it.

Thanks for your question.
There is a printable PDF of the My Family booklet that they could use to fill in the details:
Unfortunately they retired the on-line version a couple of years ago.
Hope this is what you were after.

A little bit different avenue might be to utilize the "Add Unconnected Person" found at the bottom of the drop down menu after clicking "Recents". This would be done in your tree and the only way you would be able to find it again is to keep very good records of the ID's. You could then print charts from their person page.
This link to an article found in the Help Center explains it. https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-add-an-unconnected-person-to-family-tree
It is so fun to help others build their tree. What a good friend you are. Make you have success in finding the best way to facilitate the process.

Dear James Meek
Welcome to the FamilySearch community. Thank you for the time you spend asking questions
Regarding: is there a fill in the blanks family tree template
We are giving you a detailed step by step if you are starting your own Family Tree ( Pedigree).
How do I add a family member to the pedigree in Family Tree?
Family Tree allows you to build out and populate your family tree in a variety of different ways that you will quickly become more familiar with as you work to fill in information about your family. In the meantime, start with who you know, such as a spouse, parents, or grandparents. Depending on individual circumstances, it may be helpful to contact close relatives for any missing details you may come across.
The more generations you add, the easier it will be for Family Tree to link you to matching ancestors that may already exist in the system or to provide you with record hints for those yet to be added.
Since FamilySearch is a public, highly collaborative genealogical site, know that the records for living people are stored in your private space and that not all of their information will be searchable or viewable to other users.
Here are some basic pointers to get you started. For more in-depth instructions on how to add people to your tree, or for more information about our privacy policy, see the articles linked below.
Steps (website)
You can view Family Tree in a few different ways, meaning there are a few different ways to add in family members.
Landscape View
- Use the arrows to expand the tree to the end of a line.
- Click the appropriate link for the person you want to add:
- To add a parent or spouse, click Add Parent or Add Spouse.
- To add a child, click Children below a couple box, and then click Add Child.
Portrait View
- Use the arrows to find the end of a line.
- Click Add Parent to add a parent.
- To add a child, use the landscape or descendancy views. The portrait view does not show the children of the pedigree couples.

If you and your friend each have a FamilySearch account, you can each see all of the deceased people on the Tree. You should be able to see the pedigree of all the deceased people he wants to share with you. Have him share the name and ID number of one of the most recently deceased people on the Tree. Then you can go to FIND and find that person's record and from there, look at the pedigree. I hope this helps.
