bride and groom names illegible but father names are clear
... please help! I have come across a couple of marriage entries in which the fathers' names of bridge and groom are clear enough but both the groom and brides names are illegible (even 'signatures'). Should I complete the entries with just the fathers names? I have however been able to cross reference the marriage in the civil indexes by surnames of fathers, year and quarter and parish and have identified the bridge and groom and groom that way. How should I proceed?

Hi Graham. You should not rely on outside sources to complete entries. We can use them to verify information. But, oftentimes, indexes and secondary sources may be indexed incorrectly. So, those brides and grooms and parents may never have their names spelled correctly if we "copy" from other's work. If you can get a clearer image or a different image and are able to verify the names that is reasonable. We also don't index any information from other records that is not on the image we are working on.
You should not complete the entries with just the father's names. Sharing the batch for another set of eyes to have a look is a great way to get help.
