I have my family tree on a thumb drive. How can I download it to Family Search & make public?
I purchased a Family Tree Program in 2014 which was complete with disk. This was prior to their purchase by Ancestry. I would like to download my tree which is on a thumb drive to Family Search and make it public. HOW CAN I DO THIS?

You would have to use a GEDCOM File. Here are some articles to assist you. Uploading a GEDCOM for reference is great. If you are using a GEDCOM to load people into FamilyTree, this is not the preferred method. The articles cover this.
If you type GEDCOM in the Help search bar, you can find additional articles that should answer any additional questions you may have.

It is possible to bring GEDCOM information into the pedigree Resource File in FamilySearch and then using the GEDCOM compare tool, you can update the data in the FamilySearch FamilyTree where suitable.
However, it is important to remember the following:
1) The concept of you bringing in "YOUR tree" and making it public in the FamilySearch.org database does not really exist. People do not have their own trees in FS. There is only ONE tree and that is the FamilySearch FamilyTree which is owned by FamilySearch. Everyone else can add to, modify, or in other ways improve upon that single existing tree.
2) The GEDCOM import facilities are set up to import your GEDCOM into a database different from the FSFT (i.e., the Pedigree Resource File) and from there COMPARE your GEDCOM data with that already in the tree and then make updates to the FSFT.
3) The GEDCOM import facilities is NOT intended for you to just dump your entire GEDCOM file into the database. Statistically, most people bringing in their GEDCOM files discover that anywhere from 60% to 90% of their file is ALREADY in the FamilySearch FamilyTree. If you fight the system and try to just dump your entire tree into the FSFT, you will create a huge number of duplicates which will all have to be cleaned up (i.e., merged-away) by someone. And what's worse, is you might be overwriting correct and well researched and documented data already in place for many years with your brief non-sourced or documented GEDCOM file records.
This is quite common as many people new to the GEDCOM importing capabilities of FamilySearch misunderstand the significant difference between the FamilySearch FamilyTree and other online sites such as Ancestry or MyHeritage where everyone has there own separate tree in the database.

Il est tout à fait possible d’importer votre fichier GEDCOM.
Vous ne pouvez pas télécharger directement le fichier dans FamilySearch. Ce fichier sera stocké dans le Pedigree Resource File.
Lorsque vous téléchargez un fichier GEDCOM sur FamilySearch, les informations deviennent disponibles pour les autres utilisateurs dans le fichier de ressources Pedigree (PRF).
Le GEDCOM standard ne permet pas d'inscrire des explications et d'autres types d'informations qui sont cruciales et uniques à l'Arbre Familial.
De nombreux partenaires FamilySearch ont des produits qui créent des fichiers GEDCOM.

· Notes, sources et liens multimédias.
· Personnes vivantes. (Si votre fichier GEDCOM contient des personnes vivantes, vous serez le seul à pouvoir les voir dans le Pedigree Resource File.)
· Pour transférer les renseignements vers l'Arbre Familial, vous devrez travailler à partir du site internet FamilySearch.
- L'Arbre Familial ne permet pas l'importation ou le téléchargement d'informations directement sur FamilySearch.org.
- Vous pouvez télécharger des données à l'aide d'un fichier GEDCOM afin de pouvoir ensuite ajouter de nouvelles informations à l'Arbre Familial ou de mettre à jour les renseignements existants. C'est un processus manuel.
- Vous pouvez indirectement télécharger des données dans l'Arbre Familial de FamilySearch en utilisant un logiciel tiers compatible avec l'Arbre Familial.
