Reviewing mistake
I was reviewing a batch and tried and tried to figure out a last name. I approved what the person indexing the record had put in even though it wasn't exactly right because I couldn't figure out what it might be. The next batch I reviewed had the exact same town just a few years later. The surname was clearly spelled out in that batch. Can I go back somehow and fix the one I didn't get right?
Canada, Ontario—Tax Assessment Records, 1834–1899 [Part A] - Fitzroy township 1872 is the year I believe

Unfortunately, no. Once a batch is submitted by an indexer or reviewer, it's gone. HINT: When you can't figure out the spelling of a place name, use Google. It's a great partner when indexing or reviewing.

Darn. I googled it, the surname was an option, it's just the other option is obviously the right one. darn.

It's not a great idea to do a google search to verify names of people. It works well for places, but, not as well for surnames. Sometimes you can search in FamilySearch to verify the spelling of a name, but, you really have to be able to see the actual document to be sure that another indexer has indexed it correctly. Without that, you can't assume that the spelling is correct.

I have been away from reviewing for a while. Do we not make corrections on misspelled names?

KochniukLinda1, We do not correct documents even when we know they are wrong with very few exceptions. That is up to the researcher. Our job is only to index what we see. Thanks for asking to clarify!

The new release of the "Hungary, Church Books, 1624-1950", database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSRX-7Y4R?cc=4133831 : 7 July 2022), > image 1 of 1, specifically the Bekescsaba Lutheran Church records, has a significant indexing error which occurs multiple times. The Hungarian female name Ilona has been indexed as Hona. I have been using the editor feature to correct many but will not be able to fix all. I suggest somebody looks into doing a global correction of this mistake. Early church records use Latin, in which Ilona is Helena. For new users it is detrimental to find an Ancestor recorded as Hona when she was Ilona. The user may not make a connection of the name to find that relative in the early records as Helena.
