I have 5 images, each having 2 pages. Image 1/Pg 1 has a discharge record, Pg 2 is a Separation Qualification Record for same individual

Image 2/Pg1 is a Separation Qualification Record for an individual listed in Image 5/Pg 2 with his Discharge Record

Image 2/Pg2 is a Cert. of Service record and is for same individual on Image 3Pg 2 (Discharge Record)

Image 3/Pg 1 is Discharge for another individual (a nurse); actually listed as a Separation of Service (I think)

Image 3/Pg2 is the Discharge record for the individual in Image 2/Pg2

Image 4/Pg1 is a blank Discharge Record Sheet. Image 4/Pg2 is a valid Discharge record for another individual

Image 5/Pg1 is a Discharge Record for another individual. Image 5/Pg2 is the Discharge record for the individual on Image2/Pg2.

Confusing. Need help, so I can get index it correctly).

Hi Nancy. Thanks for sharing your batch. I worked on a similar batch a few days ago. I was confused by the various documents and wondered if they were all discharge records since the instructions say to Index all Military Discharge Records, but then only show examples of Honorable Discharge Forms (AGO 53-55) and three, somewhat random, non-government issued forms. The Veterans Affairs website lists 72 different discharge forms. I've concluded that if any of the words, including Discharge, Separation, Certificate of Service, Retirement, Report of Casualty, or Statement of Service are on the document, they are discharge papers.

Looking at your images, Image 1 is a combination image for the same soldier and you are correct to only create one entry for him.

On Image 2, you would create entry for each document since they are different individuals and different forms (even though the same soldier will appear again on image 5).

On the surnames we don't index suffixes like Jr or Sr. You leave those off unless there is a special field dedicated to suffixes. You will need to revisit Images 2, 3, and 5 to correct those.

On Image 5, entry 1 there is an extra comma in the birthplace field. (Tift, Georgia)

Everything else looks great! Nice job!

Of course, after you have completed these, you will delete the unused entries using the trash can so the batch can be submitted.
