Often Locations ( Indiana etc.)appear as names often labeled (son) etc. I have tried many times to report them in the Error? Box on the bottom and they are never removed the best I have done is remove the label. Am I using the Error incorrectly or is there another way to correct this.

    I have contacted FamilySearch about various global errors - a standardized name of a town which is actually the combination of the names of two towns and a transcription error that says half of the 1865 births are 1845.

    Nothing has ever come from my contacting them so my guess is you are doing nothing wrong and you're doing the right thing by just fixing the errors on your own. I also put a note in the "Reason this Information is Correct" box so other researchers know what I have done and why.

    Still, report the error the first time you encounter it. Maybe it is on their to-do list and they'll get to it in a few decades. I appreciate all the records they've made available and the work the volunteers are doing and when I'm perfect, I'll get on their cases.

    1930 census clearly identifies person as son, yet in same area in FamilySearch that the census is connected to... it has him as female and sister. He was not a trans ... (in 1930 I don't think there was even such a thing). He was definitely born male and always was male. How does one get this corrected on the family search records?

    BJ, keep in mind that the index (particularly a computer-generated index, like the one for the GenealogyBank obituaries) is not the data. It is merely a pointer to the data. Even if it got every detail wrong, if you found the record, then the index served its purpose.

    @CarlPlath

    You may wish to contact GenealogyBank directly. From the article about GenealogyBank:

    Some records in the United States GenealogyBank Obituaries are computer-indexed and can contain errors. Use the Errors button to report these errors. Computer-indexed records from GenealogyBank have a blue box that states: "This record was indexed by a computer. There may be errors."

    If the obituary is not computer-indexed, look for an Edit link next to the incorrect information. Click it and enter the correction yourself. For errors without an Edit link, contact GenealogyBank to report the error.

    We hope this information will be useful.
