When selecting a standardized place name, how do I know when to select the municipality or the city?

I have run in to this on my family tree when I know the place of residence for the family member and when I do not know the place of residence for the family member.

    .

    FYI

    .

IF, I am not certain of the County/Shire/Municipality/City/whatever; THEN, I just use the likes of 'Google' "Maps" (or, similar) to investigate/research/check/confirm.

    .

I find, that usually does the trick ...

    .

    I hope this helps.
