How can I start a brand new tree?

FamilySearch tree is 1 large collaborative tree. You can add 2 sets of parents to a child and mark one as birth and one as adoptive and in that way you can add and work on both lines. You also select which set of parents is preferred and that will affect what you see in fan chart and pedigree views. Hope that helps you.

Patricia's links should be very helpful
But juist realize - its not really a "new tree" - you are simply adding additional relationships and people to the existing records. It is not really a disjoint separete tree database.
and keep in mind there really is no "ownerhship" of records.
we all share a single collaborative databasse -
YOU can see records I create and I can see records you create - and we can all/both update them (limitng that statement to DECEASED persons)
it is all one databasse under the umbrella of FamilySearch.
