Ability to highlight multiple areas if needed for index correcting

I was correcting this date from 27 Jan 1848 to 27 Jan 1849. The month and day is separated from the year, and I can only highlight one area. I would like to highlight multiple areas so I can highlight all of the date instead of just the year (which I changed to be correct).

Multi-part highlight boxes are frequently needed, for example when a name breaks at the end of a line and continues below (which is very, very frequently missed by indexers). One ends up either highlighting weird fragments or entire swaths of the page, neither of which serves the purpose too well.
