Ron Tanner said: We are working on several updates to the interface, particularly as we update in preparation of becoming part of www.familysearch.org. One of the updates that we are implementing is an indication that there are discussions and how long it has been since the last update to any discussion.
Thanks,
Ron Tanner - product owner new.familysearch.org0 -

Gerald Rodney Hyde said: It would be very helptul if "discussions" were marked [similar to the marking of disputes in the "old days"]. As I look at a family, I am not aware that anyone has attached a discussion for one of the members. If I knew, I could be helpful to them and maybe further "my" education. As it is now, one just "lucks out" to find a discussion attached.

Renaye Clifton said: The big question is...how much longer do we need to wait for this upgrade?0

Gerald Rodney Hyde said: We have been waiting a long time, and data integretity is suffering because there is no way to presently know that a "discussion" has been attached to the data.0

Lourdes Maria Zeyer said: It would be helpful if categories, such as individual notes, individual sources, and discussions were highlighted or marked with an * to show that information is available for others to use or build upon. Is this being considered?

ShirleyG said: I agree with the discussion on this subject. A long time ago, (when beta testing n.fs), I suggested that they add red flag or something else to flag a discussion. Otherwise people just ignore the discussions. I, like Wyema, had uncombined incorrect information, only to same incorrect information recombined by someone. No one paid attention to the discussion I had posted.0

Stephen Ralph Gulbrandsen said: This recommendation is really really important. I often write comments that are critical for others to see if they are into that name. I know most of us are not looking for comments, so an * when there is a comment would be very helpful.0

Charlotte Taylor Easter said: New Family Search - it would be very helpful to have some kind of symbol show on the Summary Screen or pedigree that there is a discussion note for that person. When I make a change to spelling, dates or parents or when I separate wrongly combined individuals, I usually add a discussion, but I wonder if anyone is reading those notes.

Suzanne Damon Mlodzik said: In the Family Tree it would be nice to have an indicator in the family pedigree, D for discussion and/or S for source so we don't have to click on the individual to see if these things are there.

Pamela Lynn O'Brien said: It would be Helpful to know that there is DISCUSSION in the DISCUSSION TAB, without having to open the tab and find it empty. We use to know there was a problem by the DISPUTE ICON. but now is more time opening and closing Tabs.
I love the Discussion Tab, but beleave Most people never look to see if what 's in there is what they are seeing.
I will open and see the same comments over and over again, instead of getting it easily fixed or contacting Help center to get it Handled. I think they feel if they post it it will get fixed by MAGIC, which it won't.
Also MORE TRAINING AT FHC That would be Mandatory before they can start MESSING us up because they haven't ask HOW DOW NFC WORK. 1 hr of talking at FHC with the Consultant's would help a great deal to stop the problems of bad info. I as a consultant have been able to get thru to a few MEMBERS to take the time and get the correct help they need. THAT'S WHAT WE ARE THERE FOR!

genehisthome said: A cute little yellow icon. A question mark in a circle. Click on it and away you go to the dispute/discussion. Jolly good idea.0

Elise Christensen said: I agree that we need to know when someone has entered into a discussion. I like how it shows a thread of discussion. An icon would be great - it would be even better if we received an email that tells us someone has posted on the discussion.0

Kenneth Lloyd Knight said: Elise, Are you familiar with the "watch" function in nfs and the wiki? In nfs there is a box in the upper right hand corner of the details section--to the right of the persons name. Clicking on this watch will result in you receiving an email when someone adds or otherwise changes any information on the page--anything, not just the discussion. See next post about posting an icon.0

Kenneth Lloyd Knight said: I agree with the comments about having some kind of a tag that tells there is something in a discussion. An icon, or making the word "Discussion" a different color-red or yellow, ect-- would be helpful. In addition, it would be helpful to link the discussion with the specific event that it is referring to. Think of a footnote. For example, if the discussion was concerning the birth, a superscripted colored letter would appear on the birth date or place in the details and would also be at the beginning of the discussion. This would let readers know when they look at the birth date or place that there was discussion about that information.0

beanycecil said: I would like to see this apply to Notes and sources as well, so that people will know they are available to be viewed. There are many ways to draw attention to these areas. Once a discussion, note or source is added, the tab/link could change colors, or be highlighted, or starred, etc.0

Landucci said: If I could interject a comment here (new to the system and don't know the proper etiquette). I have been reading this thread but have also posted a suggestion under a different listing which may partially address this issue.
While trying to address the many issues associated with tree maintenance I was also concerned with the idea of how to get others to read something I had just posted on a discussion (as well as how to find discussions initiated by others). I don't know if this suggestion would be satisfactory or not but it is discussed in [Christmas “Tree maintenance” at a glance ] which includes the displaying of "active discussions". http://gsfn.us/t/44g400
