Hi!
I'm wondering if someone is up to looking at this immigration record. I'm looking line 16 for Emile Van De Wiele. As far as I can tell it says the father is Gust Van de Wiele - Gust should be short for Augustus. Is this a typical shortening of the name? Also I think if I read it right it says he currently lives in Amandsberg, but I am having trouble deciphering the part in front of that. I hope this makes sense.
Here is the link for the record:

Amandsberg = Sint Amandsberg wich is a dependency of Ghent.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sint-Amandsberg
If you paste it to google maps, we have street view here availiable, so pick any street in it, to roam the streets.
Gust Van De Wiele is a very 'Flemisch very common name.
As for Gust, the shorts are normal here but i would go for 'Gustaaf' as Augustus here mostly is rehashed
as August,-Gust, but it is possible.
The location is about 20 min's from my home. (Zelzate).

Thank you!
Have you ever heard the name Liossia? or the surname Van de Grespel? That's the name my grandmother had for his wife, but I've never come across that name. The closest I've found is Leonia Van De Sompel.
Am I as likely to find records online as I would be if I were there in person? We're stopping in Ghent on a Sat/Sun inJuly and I am wondering what luck I might have finding more information about them if I were to do it in person.

The census desk in Ghent as well as Sint Amandsberg will be closed in the weekends.
The only ways they will provide such information at the desk Is to give evidence of
familyt ies, and secondary ,they shield everything younger then100 years under the umbrella of privacylaws, Or you are a professional -architect, realtor, notaris, etc.;in that case they will search for it.They tend to make some exeptions for geneological purposes,
But they can charche you.Depending on the muncipality's policys.
I have never heard of Liossia-strange name, but Van Grespel or Van de Grespel is possible.Leonia Van Sompel =possible.
If you think he is still alive in Sint Amandsberg, search for a 'Klapper' of Oost-Vlaanderen,Maybe he will be in it. Or the white and yellow pages online.

https://www.goudengids.be/bedrijven/Sint-Amandsberg/q_allerlei/1/
If you have some luck the' Klapper.be' will have a guide. You can search for it online.

This should be him.
https://warpress.cegesoma.be/nl/node/93893/download/dgPuFjbvQVCUcMmWY7hD oorlogskrant van cegesoma, bij de overlijdens van Augustus
wartime newspaper from Augustus by the cegesoma 1914
Week from 14=> 21 augustus.
Under 'obituaries' Onder 'overlijdens' .. do not forget to enlarge the page, search via control F prompt , hit vandewiele at prompt.
clearly indicated, name of spouse Leonie vande Sompel
So, Died at Sint Amandsberg,on the adress, Antwerpsesteenweg 262 during the course of the week of 14=>21 Augustus. (August) 1914 ,.. first year of the war.
He was a helper at a brewery and was 63 years old at that week.
Should be the red art deco house ,were he died, and so lived also.
Some background.
During worldwar 1 and 2 it was forbidden to print newspapers and inform the population.Having a newspaper or a radio would have one shot at the spot by the Germans.
We had wartime newspapers, made elsewhere,on secret locations.Cegesoma was a sort of secret service serving the resistance. They still have masses of data, and most of the time very accurate.
This newspaper is digitised and readily availiable on the web

Birthcertificate Honoria Schelfhaut te Westdorpe, Zeeuws Archief.
Location on certificate not specified, house nr 10 (difficult to read),but nothing else., no adress exept the housenumber
If and when no street is specified, the reasen to this is obvious, the complete village of Westdorpe, only consisted out of 1 street atop of 1 dyke.De 'Graafjansdyke.'This dyke
runs from Nord Pas De Calais,as Digue De Compte Jean over Belgium and Holland to Terneuzen were it ends at the junction Guido Gezellelaan and Graafjansdijk.
The whole village Westdorpe finds itself on that ribbon, in Westdorpe the stretch on the dyke that still exists fysically is 4,4 km long.In Belgium and Netherland we call this type of urbanisation
ribbon-urbanistation(Lintbebouwing). Westdorpe is the warmest Village in Holland. But anyway , this is the wikipage for the dyke(not in English)
https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graaf_Jansdijk
So the house were Honoria is born is Graafjansdijk 10a, or Graafjansdijk 10 b. The latter shows up in google streetview but is build long after Honoria's birth. So The adress
of birth should be 'Graafjansdijk 10 B. The house here is the correct age, bit detoriated and Google streetview does not cover it.Shame.
But it is about 10 min' from my location here.It is the house behind the hedge, uphill.Opposite side of the church.
one can run the whole stretch of the dyke in google street view, the best parts are Westdorpe, and Schapenbout, just place schapenbout at the prompt, or Westdorpe.
In the hedge is a bordermarker from the Austrian empire, wich borders here were roughly Phillipine, Wachtebeke,Overslag, Westdorpe...etc
http://www.grensmarkeringen.be/oostenrijkzeewsvlaanderen.htm
Scroll and search Westdorpe. Its the original one.

These are the death dates my grandmother had for Augustus and with immigration records saying Emil/Camil's father lived in Sint Amandsberg I would assume it is the same person. I'll try and find a birth certificate next. Thank you!

I have some other info i used to track Gustaaf, and as His son Was also named Theodoor Gustaaf van De Wiele, and born in Sint Amandsberg, things were complicated.
But i will send that Information tomorrow or the day after, as i'm very short of time, for the next days.
Rest assured however that Gustaaf Van De Wiele is correct.I found the sons marriage records.
The birth certificate can simply be requested at the desk, as 100 years are passed, and he is not alive, and you are related somehow.I cannot ask for it, but you can try to e-mail them.Give it a pass at the adresses i provided.

Were you aware, that The son, Gustaaf van de Wiele, that married in 1920 , wa s a railway worker?
The index in Zeeuws Archief mentioned it.It is important.Would he have served in the military?..
It would help me if i knew.

Okay, thank you! I will give that a try.

I was not aware! Very interesting. I do not know if he would have served in the military.
Other information I have from Honorina's obituary is that she and Camil/Emilius were married in Ghent Belgium in 1902 (but I have not found the record to confirm this) and lived there until 1910 when they immigrated to the United States. Most of the information you are finding is brand new to me. I have searched, but without much luck. Thank you so much for the time you've spent looking into this.
