Research assistance
Hello,
I am not sure if this is the appropriate forum to ask this question but I am stuck. Several cousins and myself have been stuck on our Great Great Grandfather for years. It's like he manifested out of nowhere as 30 year old man. Does anyone have any advice? At this point I'm thinking of hiring someone but I wouldn't know where to start.

I have 2 grt-grandmothers, one on my maternal side and one on my paternal side, who were adopted with no records of their biological parents. I have been able to determine the biological families that they are descended from using Ancestry DNA matches. It has taken me quite a while and depends on others sharing their DNA results and what they know about their family tree. If you haven't already, it might be something to consider. If you get some family members to share their DNA results on Ancestry, particularly DNA results from the older generations and cousins, then a 4th cousin who enjoys comparing shared DNA results may notice and be able to connect your 2nd grt-grandfather to his biological ancestors.

Dont think just throwing money at someone (professional researcher) will somehow magically give you the answers you are looking for. . .
It might - but good research over a long period period of time - by someone who really knows and understands the family in my mind is much more valuable then a person who knows nothing of the family - except for the short period of time you give them info, and money and then pray for a break through.
Everyone will have a bick wall at some point in their search backwards in time.
Some of them will/can be broken - but ultimately all of us - on all of our lines - hit a brick wall. Thats just the nature of the beast - but of course we each keep looking and hoping for a break through. Some times it comes and some times it doesnt.
