On entry #166 on this death and burial record, what is the occupation of this Hans Sorensen, does it say he died in Christiansand, and what is the cause of death?

Thank you so much!

    Hi @Clytee Gold

I believe we did an ICAPGen study group together :-)

Hans Sørensen was a Gaardmand (Farmer) and he died of Mavesyge (stomach illness)

    Torhild,

Yes, we did! I hope you are doing well. Thank you for answering.

This answer is so boring compared to the story passed down through the family. The story was that Hans Sorensen was a farmer that sold the farm, moved into Kristiansand, and was a styrmand and then skipper and he was having a boat built for him. When he went to see how the boat building was coming along, he went to see the boat and the anchor fell on his and killed him.

Stomach illness is way less exciting.

Thanks again, and good to hear from you again.

    Clytee

The cause of death is listed as "Mavetilfælde," which means stomach pains, possibly a stomach infection. It's possible that the family story happened and that his getting hit caused stomach problems which led to his death, but the boat and anchor are not mentioned in the burial record.
