Nils Peter Strand (1833-1912), married to Martha A Anderson (1833-1914) moved to America with their son (born in Norway) Andrew Anders Strand (1863-1928)and maybe other children. I would like to know about their families in Norway and connect them to my American records. Any help would be appreciated. It is possible (likely) nils father's name was Pedar Milson Strand. Do I need to do anything to show my family tree or can you see it when I ask these questions?

No, the FamiySearch tree does not appear when you ask questions. Here is a link. https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/GHD9-HD1 Do you have any source for the parents of Nils Peter Strand? Without a source we can't really rely on this information. It would be best to back up a little and find the marriage of Nils Peter Strand and Marthe Andersen, this would get you started on the right track.

A probable match for Nils Peter Strand is seen in the 1905 Wisconsin census as the father of married Lina Syrstad 44 years old born in Norway. This would be a good area of study. She emigrated in 1884 (23 years old) and was naturalized. John Syrstad emigrated in 1879 so they probably married in the U.S.

Again, another probable match. John Syrstad marries Lena (Lina) Nelson (Nilsdatter) 1894 in Superior, Wisconsin. Also lists Martha Anderson as the spouse's mother's name. So, this looks very promising.

Shari is right, you need to systematically track the family back, sourcing as you go. This is step 1.
Addressing your question of finding LIVING relatives in Norway - that's a whole 'nother level of complexity. Privacy laws are even stricter there; they are just this year releasing the census records for 1920.
Assuming the family is no longer in touch with known kin in Norway, I would recommend doing a DNA test, either through MyHeritage or from elsewhere and upload to MyHeritage, and look for matches on your Norwegian line. If BOTH you and your potential cousin have large enough trees posted (on MyHeritage - free), you may just find some cousins there. We went to Norway in 2017; thanks to MyHeritage DNA matching, I had meetings lined up with 3 cousins, and one led me to 4 more.

Thanks Carol for adding the info about finding living relatives. DNA is a really good suggestion in this story. The likely parents of Peter's ancestor were not married, thus making tracing back further more complex.

Thank you.
