Researching the birth dates of two Dal Molin brothers - both born in Zorzoi, Sovramonte, Belluno, It
Giuseppe was born around 1860 and Giovanni Battista around 1870. I was wondering if military records are searchable? It is my understanding that after unification mandatory conscription was instituted. Each village/commune was required to annually submit the names of young men who had turned 18 in that year. The information included name, birth date, physical description and parents.
I've been able to uncover the births of the younger siblings, as their records are available via Ancestry and two brothers who immigrated to the U.S., but Giuseppe and Giovanni Battista are a mystery.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

There aren't many Italian military records in Family Search but a list can be found in this wiki article.

They are not digitally indexed that I know of, so if you access them you have to visually scroll through the images.
You can also request specific military records for an ancestor from the Italian State Archives; your request should generally be sent to the provincial archive covering where your ancestor was born.

Also, Italian Civil Registration in Belluno I don't think started until 1871; so birth records before that date would only be found in the churches.

Thank you for the wiki link. I knew that civil birth registrations wouldn't be an option because of the timeframe, although I had success with finding the younger siblings. My hope was that the military registrations might be available.
