I want to know how to use the FamilySearch ID of a deceased person to actually search for their reco
I see a number of very likely duplicates to merge my record with, but I am hesitant to do so without contacting the person that added the other records. The merge function does provide the family search id of the possible match, but it doesn't allow you to look at the record to find out who added it. This means that you cannot contact them before making the merge and possibly changing something they don't want changed.
Anyone know how to do this?

Also be aware that if you are looking at the suggested duplicates you can actually click on the name of the suggested duplicate and it will take you directly to their page where you can see all of that.
I do this frequently but when I do I use my browser's ability to open the (name) link in a new window. That way I can compare them side by side.

Short Answer: 'Yes'.
.
The the "Find by ID" option of the "Find" feature/facility/function in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch.

ps:
.
IF, you have done your 'homework' (ie. Due Diligence); and, are completely satisfied that the individuals/persons are "Duplicates"; THEN, although it would be acceptable/nice; and, you are OK (eg. reasonably, proficient) with "Merging"/"Combining", you DO NOT have to contact the Other User/Patron, before doing the "Merge"/"Combined"; but, it does not hurt (would not go amiss) to contact them after doing the "Merge"/"Combined" (provided, of course, you 'do a good job'), just for their edification.

Be aware that, you may not get a response - there are many reason for this, the foremost being that they may now be "Dead"/"Deceased" themselves.

First, Happy, healthy and prosperous 2021 to you and yours.
Second, thanks for the really quick turnaround.
Third, thanks for all the great links and the information. I looked for that damned find by id option dozens of times with no luck before you sent me the url.
Anyway...thanks again and have a great new year.
