I would like to find all vital records for the village of Cittanova, Reggio Calabria for the Stato Civile period, i.e., post 1866. The vital records for Cittanova are available online for the "Restaurazione" period only.

Did the commune's records merge with another commune after 1865? Or are records simply not posted to any ancestry related website for the commune of Cittanova post 1865? Any insight is appreciated. Thanks. Joseph Bisazza

Good morning @JosephBisazza JosephBisazza my grandmother and her relatives were from Cittanova. I started some searches, met the same problems, is there a way I can help you?

The post-1865 records for Cittanova are under the jurisdiction of the tribunale court of Palmi in Reggio Calabria. Those records have not been made available for filming yet. I don't know if there is a projected date for them to be filmed.

The post-1866 records are not combined with another comune's records. The court of Palmi has custody of the archival records for several comuni; they just haven't been filmed yet.

Il Tribunale di Palmi ha giurisdizione territoriale sui Comuni di: Anoia, Candidoni, Cinquefrondi, Cittanova, Cosoleto, Delianuova, Feroleto della Chiesa, Galatro, Giffone, Gioia Tauro, Laureana di Borrello, Maropati, Melicuccà, Melicucco, Molochio, Oppido Mammertina, Palmi, Polistena, Rizziconi, Rosarno, San Ferdinando, San Giorgio Morgeto, San Pietro di Carità, San Procopio, Santa Cristina d’Aspromonte, Sant’Eufemia d’Aspromonte, Scido, Seminara, Serrata, Sinopoli, Taurianova, Terranova Sappo Minulio e Varapodio.

The comune of Cittanova changed names in 1852. It used to be called Casalnuovo. The previous records can be found under that name.

    Good 'Questions' ...

    .

'Yes', it appears that 'FamilySearch' ONLY has the Records up until "1865" ...

    .

I just did a search in the 'FamilySearch' "Catalogue", for "Cittanova", where you want ...

    .

    https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/results?count=20&placeId=116649&query=+place:"Italy, Reggio di Calabria, Cittanova"&subjectsOpen=536557-50

    .

    Which resulted in this ...

    .

    https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/372694?availability=Family History Library

    .

Those Records are available, 'On-Line'; and, with "Restrictions" ( ie. through "Family History Centres" of the Church (or, possibly, "Affiliate" Libraries), around the World.

    .

    As such ...

    .

I am "Tagging" this (General) 'Question' of yours in this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, to two (x2) specific 'Groups' in the Forum being:

    (1) "Italy Genealogy Research"; and,

    (2) "FamilySearch – Italia" ... [ in 'Italian' ]

in the hope that, the members of those groups may be able to answer/assist you.

    .

    Good Luck.

Thanks, I had a feeling that they might be combined in another Commune's records.

Would you happen to know why the "Restaurazione" records for Cittanova start in 1852? Do you know if there are any earlier records kept at another Commune and are available online for viewing? Thanks again for the answer. Joseph

Just wondering, how did you know that the records were not filmed yet. Is there a place on Family Search or somewhere else that lists the status of Communes to be completed for document filming? Thanks, Joseph Bisazza

Not really. I looked on the Antenati web site on the "Il territorio i le fonti" page. If you scroll down the left side you see the State Archives of Reggio Calabria, Palmi section is greyed out, meaning records are not available. So I went to the Tribunale of Palmi site and found the competenza territoriale listing, on the "who we are" page. That told me which towns' records are held at Palmi waiting to be filmed.

Unfortunately, there's not a comprehensive site that I know of with status and planned dates. Even the Antenati site only has the project plan through 2019. There are still collections that were planned to be made available in 2017 and 2018 that have not yet been fully posted.
