I am looking for a scattered family with a wild story.
My great great grandfather died in 1894 in either Van Buren, Crawford, Arkansas or Muldrow, Sequoyah, Oklahoma. Almost immediately after he was killed, his wife Mary remarried before she and her children disappear from any record until the children get married later in life. I found out from a family letter that Mary's new husband forced her to send all of her children to an orphanage so he wouldn't have to deal with them. The 12 year old ran away to go work on the railroad and the 8 year old ran away to one of the nearby Indian reservations; however, all of the other children down to the two year old daughter ended up at the orphanage (though I don't know which orphanage). I have learned that census records for 1900 are probably my best bet at finding them. My problem is I can't find the census records. I was told that orphanages were often assigned their own enumeration districts so could anyone point me to where I could figure that out? Or help me figure out how else to find them? I don't know which orphanage they were sent to.
Also I have checked the Steve Morse site and it is not giving any results.
