Private tree

I continue to have individuals that create new records, or revise records within my tree. When this occurs, I spend more time correcting, email, etc. than going forward in my own work for me tree. I would like to be able to make my tree non-edited status. Due to these continuing issues, I have walked away from any work for a number of months.

Family search was always designed from the ground up - to be a collaborative system. There really is no such thing as "my tree" versus "your tree" concept here in FamilySearch Family Tree.

I understand the desire to have a tree that is under your total control and doesnt get overlaid by others. There are numerous applications that you can install on your local PC\MAC to allow for this.

    here is one link:

If I were you I would seriously look into one of these products.

That being said - I think that many people "miss the boat" as to how a collaborative system like FamilySeach allows for accomplishments that could only be dreamed of when working alone.

I highly recommend this video to understand why many people still feel value in Familysearch even with the things you describe.

We'd love to have you be part of our on line community and access to your serious research - - but this is a collaborative database.

It is not a system where each person has their own private database (other than for living persons)

Short Answer: Unfortunately, NOT currently possible.

    .

That is to say, NOT what "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is about.

    .

    You are not alone ...

    .

Most (in fact, probably, just about all) of us have experienced this.

    .

This is the basic premise of "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' ...

    .

We do not have our OWN "Tree" in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

We ONLY have "Branches", that are interconnected, in this SINGLE "One" World "Tree", for all of us, that is "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is NOT like Other "Websites" (eg. "Ancestry_com"; or, "MyHeritage_com"; or, the like); and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes (eg. "Ancestral Quest"); or or the like.

    .

We DO NOT have "Private"/"Personal" 'Trees' in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' like Other "Websites"; and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes; or or the like.

    .

We do not even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, the "Deceased" individuals/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

Whereas, we do have control over the "Living" individuals/persons in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' that we "Create"; as, NO Other User/Patron can, either, see; nor, access, them; as, they reside in our "Private Spaces" in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' - but, such is not for the "Deceased" individuals/persons.

    .

"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is built on a "Open Edit" Platform - hence, why any registered User/Patron can "Edit" (ie. Add, Delete; and/or, Change) ANY "Deceased" individual/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

There are over 1 BILLION individuals/persons in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

    Now ...

    That said ...

    .

Many Users/Patrons have or maintain their OWN, private; and/or, inaccessible, database, of their "Ancestral" lines (ie. "Pedigree"), on Other "Websites" (eg. "Ancestry_com"; or, "MyHeritage_com"; or, the like); and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes (eg. "Ancestral Quest"); or or the like.

    .

There are many "Third Party" Applications that are "Certified" to work with "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

These "Third Party" Applications that are "Certified" to work with "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' can be found in the "Solutions Gallery" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

    https://partners.familysearch.org/solutionsgallery/s/

    .

Some of those "Third Party" Applications that are "Certified" to work with "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' have, both, a FREE version; and, a PAID (ge, "Subscription") version - the latter simply having more 'Bells and Whistles'.

    .

I know that this does not help; or, address your concerns.

    .

Believe me, what you have raised; and, desire. has been done many times over the years; and, will continue to be so.

    .

Many Users/Patrons, join in to use "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' WITHOUT understanding the basic premise.

    .

And, many, who even joined understanding the basic premise, like you; now, want what you want.

    .

Whereas, many of have learned that; despite, the pitfalls of the basic premise (of the SINGLE "One" World "Tree", for all of us, that is "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'), ALL we can do is "Watch" (ie. now, "Follow") those close to us in our "Ancestral" lines (ie. "Pedigree"); and, address/fix them, when they have been incorrectly, "Changed"; or, "Merged"/"Combined", by other Users/Patrons.

    .

It is possible that you are already aware; but, just in case you are not; as a User/Patron, one can currently "Watch" (ie. now, "Follow") up to 4000 individuals/persons in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'. You can check your "Watch" List (ie. now, those that you are "Following") on a daily basis - I certainly do. And, as such, one can be on top of any 'wayward' , "Changes"; or, "Merges"/"Combines", by other Users/Patrons, almost as they happen.

    .

    Just some thoughts.

    .

    Brett
