How do I correct a cemetery location on the map in the Family Search App? My wife is buried in a cemetery, shown as a standardized place, in Alabama, USA and the map in the app shows the cemetery located out in the ocean off of the coast of Ghana.

I appreciate this Family Tree App feature "Map My Ancestors". As I visit cemeteries in various locations I can check to see if I have relatives buried in the area.

    .

    What is the "Cemetery"?

    And, what is the "Standard".

Have you checked the "Standard" out in "Research/Places" Database?

    https://www.familysearch.org/research/places/

    .

You can contact the "Authorities Team" team from "Standard" from there.

    .

You can also post in the 'Group' being "FamilySeach Places" in this "Community. FamilySearch" Forum, they monitor that group.

    .

I am "Tagging" this 'Question' of yours in that group now.

I took a look in the Places database ( https://www.familysearch.org/research/places/ ) and there are 5000 cemeteries listed in Alabama:

You can only list up to 100 per page, but scrolling thorough the 50 pages only took about ten minutes. None of them showed a map pin out in the ocean. 5000 is a suspiciously round number so I have to wonder if that broad of a search really brings up all possible matches.

You will need to post the exact name of the cemetery as you see it in the app to get this corrected (unless someone at FamilySearch already saw your post and corrected it.)

Also, check to see if the cemetery place in Family Tree is standardized correctly. When you open the editing box is should look like this if there is additional information added to the place name:

or like this if there is no additional information:

Screen Shot 2020-08-30 at 7.41.13 AM

(Yes, both of these are standardized correctly. Don't let anyone tell you the first one is not.)

However, if the standardization looks like this:

the problem lies in the incorrect standardization of the place name. To fix that, you need to re-standardize the place name.

Casey Church Of Christ Cemetery, Selma, Dallas, Alabama was missing GPS coordinates.

It's located at GPS: 32.3232, -86.9291 - coordinates have been added.

In checking this morning they are not showing her burial location anymore so maybe they are making repairs to the database.

The cemetery in question is Casey Church Of Christ Cemetery, Selma, Dallas, Alabama, United States

Thanks for your help on this.
