Is it possible in Family Search to set up more than one family tree, for example to have separate trees for different branches of the family, in order to avoid having just one tree that eventually becomes so big as to be unweildy and hard to navigate?

    @Peter Swain

    .

Short Answer: 'No', NOT in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

But, there some options ... keep reading ...

    .

    As an aside ...

    .

We do not have our OWN "Tree" in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

We ONLY have "Branches" (ie. "Ancestral" lines; or, if you like, "Pedigrees"), that are interconnected, in this SINGLE "One" World "Tree", for all of us, that is "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

There are over 1 BILLION individuals/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is NOT like Other "Websites" (eg. "Ancestry_com"; or, "MyHeritage_com"; or, the like); and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes (eg. the "Old" PAF; or, "Ancestral Quest"; or. the like).

    .

We DO NOT have "Private"/"Personal" 'Trees' in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' like Other "Websites"; and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes.

    .

We do not even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, the "Deceased" individuals/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is built on a "Open Edit" Platform - hence, why any registered User/Patron can "Edit" (ie. Add, Delete; and/or, Change) ANY "Deceased" individual/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

    The options ...

    .

    Firstly ...

    .

IF, you maintain your own "Digital" Database(s) of your "Ancestral" lines; or, if you like, "Pedigrees"; THEN, you can upload them in the "Genealogies" part of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

But, please be aware that the "Genealogies" part of 'FamilySearch' is "Static" - such, "Ancestral" lines; or, if you like, "Pedigrees", are "As Is" (ie. as loaded at the time), they cannot be "Changed" on-line, the ONLY option is to "Delete" them; and. upload a NEW one (version).

    .

The "Ancestral" lines; or, if you like, "Pedigrees" in the "Genealogies" part of 'FamilySearch' are for "Research" purposes ONLY, viewable, to all Users/Patrons.

    .

    Secondly ...

    .

    Whereas ...

    .

IF, you DO NOT maintain your own "Digital" Database(s) of your "Ancestral" lines; or, if you like, "Pedigrees"; THEN, the are "Third Party" Applications that are "Certified" to work with "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

Some of those "Third Party" Applications that are "Certified" to work with "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' are, 'On-Line' "Websites" (eg. "Ancestry_com"; or, "MyHeritage_com"; or, the like).

    .

Some of those "Third Party" Applications that are "Certified" to work with "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' are, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes (eg. "Ancestral Quest"; or. the like).

    .

Some of those "Third Party" Applications that are "Certified" to work with "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' of the, 'On-Line' "Websites"; and, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes, have, BOTH, a FREE version; and, a "Subscription" (ie. "Paid") version - the latter simply having more 'Bells and Whistles'.

    .

You can use one or MORE of those "Third Party" Applications that are "Certified" to work with "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

    The choice is yours ...

    .

The "Third Party" Applications that are "Certified" to work with "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' can be found in the "Solutions Gallery" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

    Here is the direct "link':

    .

    Enjoy.

    .

I know that this may not be what you want to here; but, I certainly hope it helps just a little; and, gives you some perspective.

    Brett shares some good info.

If it was me - I would simply "bookmark" those people who I would consider the "home person" for each of the "perceived" independent trees.

Like for example I could pick my 8 great grandparents - and create a bookmark - or copy of the Family Search Link for each of those 8 people

then I don't have to worry about the "unwieldy" navigation to them.

I can go directly to each of these 8 trees in a single click

(though truth is these 8 trees - are not disjoint - they are very much combined - but I can navigate instantly to the "main" person in that "tree" or "view" of interest - as if they were 8 different trees (when in reality they really are not different trees) - - but it all is just a matter of perception - as well as being able to quickly navigate to the desired person.
