Patricia - looks like this document is in Polish. You'll want to make sure to post it or tag it to the @Poland Genealogy Research or @Russian Empire Genealogy Research if it's in Russian or a Lithuanian research question. Sometimes the General Questions tend to go unnoticed, and you can get more specialized help in the area-specific research groups 😃

Birth Record No. 27, Girtakolsk (?) Parish, Year 1843, on 4th February, in Girtakolski (?) Roman Catholic Parish Church was baptized with water and anointed with consecrated oil an infant with the name Jozef by Priest Rachael Jankiewicz of the same Church. The infant is the son of hardworking Jozef and Barbara, maiden name Juchniewicz, married couple Bukowski, born on 3rd February, 1843, in this Parish, in the village Rozaytele (?). He was held by the godparents, a hardworking Jozeff Juchniewicz and born Barbara Widzicka.

I still do not know where you found this record and what was the name of the Parish. Was it Girtakolsk (?) and could you find it on a map kami.net.pl/kresy You may start typing there and find the map, if you click on an icon, e.g. Girt  but I could not find anything like it. You did a good job finding this record. The surname is very Polish Bukowski, but there could a Lithuanian variation e.g. Bukauskas

This record is in Polish and speaking Polish I could translate it if the scan of the record was not so "fuzzy". Could you give me URL or address where you found it, and I will be glad to translate it, if I get a clearer copy.

Thank you ...Thank you...This confirms this is the Great grandfather of my husband.

I found it https://www.epaveldas.lt/home in the Girkalnis Parish records. I already this person's marriage record.

Would it be too much to ask to confirm another. Yesterday I found what I believe is this person's brother Antom.

    Sincerely ...Patty Burke (Bukauskas)

Thanks so much - it was pretty exciting. I did just post again.

I've been going through the records and have found a number of people with family names (Bukowski/Bakauskas, Bakutis, Gudziounos and Juchniewicz) both maternal and paternal side for my husband's Dad.

Thank you so much ... Patty

    Hi Patty,

Congratulations on finding another record. I will be happy to translate it, but when I used the URL address I only got reference to Epaveldas, and did not result for Girkalnis. Please try the same method you did the first time, and I will be happy to translate.

Maria, thank you for the "kresy" site - I actually think it's easier to use than the other.

I thought I attached the 2nd record ...but apparently not. It should show below - lower right side - #94
