'Yes', you are correct ...

The ONLY current available 'Events' of the 'breakdown' of a "Couple Relationship", are "Annulment"; and, "Divorce".
.
There is NO available 'Event' such as "Separated"; whether, that be 'legally' (ie. "Officially") or otherwise.

In answer to your question: As a "Note" in a NUMBER of ways/places ...

Firstly ...
In the "Reason This Information Is Correct" under the existing relationship "Event" (ie. as an "Addendum" to the existing 'Event"; which, indicates the "Separation").

Secondly ...
Under the "Couple Relationship", and, down to the "Relationship Notes"; as, a new "Note".
.
Thirdly ...
For BOTH individuals/persons, under the "Other Information" Section; as, at least, a "Custom Fact"; but, also as a "Custom Event", if the 'Date' and 'Place' are know (especially, it was a 'legally' documented "Separation".)

As an aside ...

We have been advised by 'FamilySearch' (through another longtime Forum) that the "Couple Relationship" part of "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is undergoing a major 'revamp', we will have to wait and see ...

ps: You may wish to provide "Feedback" to 'FamilySearch", suggesting an additional "Event" such as "Separation" for a "Couple Relationship".

You can do such through the "Feedback" link at the bottom of most pages/screens; and, leaving the "Suggestion or Compliment" marked/checked; and, selecting the 'Button' to "Share your idea". That will take you the the 'FamilySearch' ("GetSatisfaction") 'Feedback' Forum where you can "Share an Idea".

Just to add a bit of support to this suggestion.
The ability to add an "event" of Separation would help a lot, as family histories are not always easy to record.
There can sometimes be considerable time between separation and the finalisation of the divorce process, at the moment, it is not possible to reflect this.

About adding a Separation notation, you can always put your suggestion in the "Suggest and Idea" section. It might be added later, especially if several users have the same request. It is worth a try.
