I am upgrading my family tree software to Legacy 9 and would like to import all of the details rather than printing hard copy and entering manually.

Here is a basic link to get you started. http://support.legacyfamilytree.com/article/AA-01000/0/Legacy-FamilySearch-How-do-I-get-started.html
Legacy is tree share certified and will connect with FamilySearch but you need to be asking how from the Legacy side. I use Rootsmagic myself so I know how it works in my software but not in Legacy.

Keep in mind - what you have input in FamilySEarch - is not encapsulated into a private database - but part of a massive billion record family tree.
lets say that you input 1,000 people into FS FT - those 1,000 people are also connected to many other thousands of people that other people have entered etc.
(its not like you have your own private tree in FS)
so when you use the instructions that other people have shared with you - there indeed will be ways to download data into a local database - but you will quicly find that it is much more than you entered. There are common users like you and me - who easily have millions of records linked to them - if they go back far enough. what you perceive as a family tree of a few thousand records - can actually be a forest of millions of records - with no clear boundary between the two.
but none the less picking certain parameters and constraints - yes there are ways to download data using third party software.

This link to Legacy 9.0 says the below.
note it says the interface is only for temple submission.
so I dont get the impression there is an interface for downloading or syncing. but maybe some other Legacy user knows more than I on the matter.
LDS Support
- Complete LDS support is included. This includes fields for all ordinance dates and temples, special date codes, temple list, ordinance reports and through our FamilySearch integration you can prepare names for the temple.
- Source documentation for LDS ordinance information.

I am sorry to take another 'tack' ...
.
I DO NOT use any of the "Third Party" Applications, I only use "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'; and, I am aware of "Legacy"; but, certainly DO NOT use that ...
.
IF, "Legacy 9" DOES NOT have a way to "Synchronise" with "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' (ie. is NOT "Certified" to work with "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'); THEN, just enter the "Additions" Manually, one at a time.
.
But ...
That said ...
.
As far as I was aware, "Legacy", is one of the "Third Party" Applications that IS "Certified" to work with "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'; SO, you SHOULD be able to "Synchronise", both, "Legacy"; and, "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch', to do the "Additions" electronically, WITHOUT having to "Print" a "Hard-Copy"; and, enter by "Typing".
.
Just my thoughts.

Thank you!

but having said that - you say you are "upgrading"
so don't you have a database in an older format - that you can just convert and not have to retype in all in.????

Have you seen this?:
As you can see, there is an entire section specifically on dealing with FamilySearch including a section on Training that they recommend to "do before using the Legacy-FamilySearch interface":
(I found this by doing a quick look on their website. In doing so, I was surprised to discover that Legacy does NOT run natively on a Mac. You need to either totally configure the Mac to only run windows, i.e., with Boot Camp, or you need to have Virtual Machine software such as Fusion to run it on under Windows)

Thanks to all of you for your helpful responses. When I say upgrading, I mean that I used to use Family Tree Maker. Mine is a 2009 version. My system is an IBM. There is much newer software available than I have, but there doesn't seem to be a guarantee that it will continue to be upgraded. Legacy family tree is one of the programs "certified" by the Church for genealogy that according to what I have read and studied on the software is what the Church uses. Of course, I could be wrong about that. At any rate, I believe that it will work much better than what I have now. The reason I wanted to download back to my software from FamilySearch, is that my tree I have entered into FamilySearch has many more "sources" and many more generations connected to mine than I thought possible. When I get the software and start the learning curve, I will certainly share what I have discovered. Obviously I don't want the millions of records found on FamilySearch, I just want the info that is attached to my personal tree. I can always transfer my old info by making a gedcom file from my old Family Tree 2009 version and import into Legacy, but would really like to start fresh. I am in the process of looking at the Legacy site and studying all of its features and how to do them. Again thanks so much for your ideas and suggestions.

no company that I know of is willing to guarantee that there product will be useable forever.
Even the LDS church discontinued their product PAF.
There are various products that are certified to work with FamilySearch.
But that is NOT an endorsement. there are various that are "certified".
Im not sure what you mean by "church uses Legacy" - members of the church use a whole range of products.
Here is a comparison of various products.
There is no single best program - they each have their pros and cons and each person has their own needs and criteria

But some companies have done a darned good job at it. The Church did not develop PAF. It had existed for a couple of years prior to that. And now it has continued under the name of Ancestral Quest. I've used it for over 35 years now, and it's basic structure has never really changed (If it works, don't fix it). I can't remember the last time a capability was actually REMOVED from that tool. In fact, the only real changes that have been made in recent months has been trying to keep up with all the churn and changes that FS constantly makes to their API!
Whereas the FSFT has had several MAJOR User Interface Overhauls in just the last 2 or 3 years alone. Why is there so much instability in the FS website? I know that there are issues with resources and the access network and server farms themselves are whole projects in their own right. But that does NOT explain a lot of what I have seen.
