I need to view a record from Lazonby parish, cumbria. The record is apparently digitized (the little camera image is present) but there is also a key image. When I select the image, no viewable image is displayed as though secret. Why is this?

It is a locked record group and by conrtact with the Record holder can only be accessed at FHL, FHC or an affililate [like historical or gen. society with FamilySearch access by agreement].

    .

The "Restriction" of Records/Images is usually due to "Contractual Arrangements/Agreements" between the "Record Custodian" and "FamilySearch"; as, applied by the "Record Custodian", at their behest.

    .

There are many reason for "Record Custodian" applying "Restrictions" to Records/Images.

    .

And, such "Restrictions" can be "Changed" (either, lifted; or imposed) when "Contractual Arrangements/Agreements" between the "Record Custodian" and "FamilySearch" are renewed, at the will and behest of the "Record Custodian".

    .

"FamilySearch" tries to make as many Records/Images accissible as possible; but, is at the mercy of the "Record Custodian".

    .

    They are NOT "Secret" ...

They are "Restrictions" by the "Record Custodian" ...

    .

Many of the "Restricted" Records/Images can be view at "Family History Centres" of the Church (and/or, "Affiliate Libraries"). Of course, at this juncture, that is when the "Family History Centres" of the Church (and/or, "Affiliate Libraries") are "Open" again following the "COVID-19" Pandemic.

    .

    Furthermore ...

Here is a post in the "FamilySearch" ("GetSatisfaction") 'Feedback' Forum, of 2 Months, by "FamilySearch", on this matter, that anyone can access ...

Thank you for your inquiry and suggestion. We have had several requests in this regard as a result of the temporary closing of our Family History Library and family history centers due to COVID-19 precautions. Due to contractual obligations, we unfortunately cannot offer expanded external access to records restricted to family history centers and affiliate libraries. We apologize for this inconvenience.

    .

In the meantime, we encourage you to explore the vast record collections that are available on FamilySearch. Millions of new indexed records and images are added weekly. And if you haven’t used our new Explore Historical Images tools, you might be surprised at the potential discoveries you can make in our growing unindexed image collections.

We appreciate your patience, loyalty, and support,

And, as 'FamilyBible' has already provided details of, here is an Image of the "Banner" at the TOP of the "Search/Records" in "FamilySearch":
