While searching for info about my grandfather, I came across his birth record that indicates that he was born in 1887 in San Vigilio, Monclassico, Dimaro, Trento, Italy. The problem is that this location wan't part of Italy in 1887 it was part of the Austria-Hungary Empire. therefore, it historically inaccurate. I've attached a screen shot of the relevant page. How can this be corrected?

    L Bartsch,

I commend your vigilance for historical accuracy. This area of the world is difficult to keep track as country boarders were constantly changing. Unfortunately, it is not possible to edit the original record within FamilySearch. However, there are multiple places you can make note of the historically accurate birthplace of your ancestors. You can edit the note attached to the source, leave a note under the heading Collaborate on the Person Page, as well as adding an Event of the accurate birthplace.

I will watch for your response in case you need further assistance.

@LBartsch Although these records are currently catalogued under Italy, this should not preclude updating the index with the historically accurate place name. I have made this correction for Leonida Mocatti; however, until the next update, the record details will continue to display Trento, Italy.

Sorry about the absence of an image. For some reason it was rejected.

I think it is likely that this record is catalogued as an Italian record because that is where the record is now held and where FamilySearch would have microfilmed it.

@SerraNola Can you confirm if my understanding is right/wrong, please? Thank you.

BTW, I'm at my local FSC today, and I have access to the image, too. @LBartsch do you need a copy of the record or do you already have it?

@LBartsch Yes, but I'm referring to the actual baptism record, not the index image you posted and which @Sam Sulser retrieved. Do you have the actual baptism record, or would you like a copy ? I can't post it here, but I can send it to you through the messaging system.

Sent. Look for a red number on the envelope at the top right.
