Hello to all !

I do not know which year to indicate for Louis Tellier. Should I add the year for an event that concerns Louis Tellier or the year the Index was recorded ?

Thank you !

@SDra That set of records/images is not very descriptive in the catalog, but I think your particular image comes from 'Volume T' of a chronological set started by the Flathead Agency in about 1887. From what I could gather this volume dates to 1921. But it's not that simple as the card was a 'living' document and as you can see annotations occurred frequently to the original. The cards stopped being updated in the 1950s. So the date of the Source is actually 1921 thru 1956 [or so]. I'd use the rather 'soft' date of 1952 which appears to be the last entry found on the card

edit —— But…. on further review I see now the 1984 dates. So even though the agency stopped using them in the 50s the cards continued to live on once tribal governments obtained the cards. That's my best read on this, but confusing. Sorry I didn't answer your original question. I hate to not have a date on Sources… Maybe a 'range' would work

@SDra - the usual idea is to record the date of the source, but that's not always clear. In such a case, I tend to do as @Mark McKenzie_1 does and use the last visible date on the card - or maybe the last date on the card for Louis, which appears to be 1959, given that the spread is so wide.

Don't worry too much - so long as the date in question isn't before one of the facts that the source purports to support, it probably doesn't make much difference…

@SDra The PID is a Personal Identification Number given to each person entered in Family Search example Christine K82B-TD5 . Using Family Tree, click on Find then on Find By ID then enter the PID to go to Results. Then click on the Person's Name using separate Tabs so you can flip back and forth between your person and this discussion page or whatever other research you're doing like I do with Family Search and other genealogy research sites such as government records etc. As for families I'm following, please go to the envelope icon which will have a little red dot in a few minutes.

I'm no expert but I would put the date on the PID page and link the two together

    Hello Mary Ellen !

    Thank you for your reply.

The source is attached to Louis James Tellier but the General Index is for the Tellier family and the most recent event recorded is the date of Christine Tellier's death in 1984.

Should I add the date of 1984 as the date of the source or add a date that concerns Louis James Tellier ?

I am confused if the date is the date of the source 1984 in this case or a date of an event that concerns the person I am working on, Louis James Tellier.

I encounter very often this kind of source for Native American families and always hesitate when adding the year.

@SDra Small world, according to your research it turns out that Christine K82B-TD5 is/could be the wife of my 14th cousin, Moses Dumont K82B-TD5 and Louis James LYT3-NK7 is/could be the husband of my 11th cousin-once-removed Annie Keeler LVZB-FGT 😎!! I use the words "is/could be" because if you go far enough back and according to FS, I have both European/British royalty and Mayflower ancestry too!! 😄

    Hello Mary Ellen !

Great news and extensive work was and is still being done on the Tellier family tree. If you need help do not hesitate to contact me even for French sources.

I am still confused with the date to add for the General Index.

Could you explain what is PID and how to link ?

    Best regards.
