What am I missing?

I'm trying to unravel numerous incorrect merges between a William & Margaret Gourley and their family in England, with a William & Margaret Gourlay and their family in Scotland.

Reviewing the changelogs for each profile I've come across several instances where there were updates and sources added after the profiles were deleted by merge. How is that possible?

examples:

William Gourley (Deceased) • Change Log • Person • Family Tree

William Gourley (Deceased) • Change Log • Person • Family Tree

I suspect that the answer lies with the fact that the post-merge updates on the 2 profiles above, @ColinCameron, are branded as being done by FamilySearch. Updates branded thus appear to this ordinary user, to be background utilities.

I think many of us realise that merge deleted profiles aren't deleted at all but are, to invent a phrase, switched off. I am guessing that there is some sort of link to previously attached source records that is rendered invisible by the merge deletion but is still there in some form. If FS run some software that updates visible source attachments to visible profiles - maybe there's a format change - then maybe these hypothetical (to me) source attachments to merge deleted profiles also need to have that update applied. Hence the update after deletion.

Quite why some of those explanations read as they do, I have no idea.
