I am writing to request help regarding missing pieces of the jigsaw in my Sharp ancestry. I am stuck at my 2 x GGparents. I have a baptism for my 2xGGF and all is OK forwards from him but I can't find a marriage for his parents. Details are:

2xGGF Thomas Swan Sharp baptised 16 May 1803 in St Sepulchre, Newgate, London to Edward & Elizabeth Sharp. There was also a Sarah Sharp baptised 13 June 1805, also in St Sepulchre. I've found no other children of the marriage.

I found a marriage in Christ Church Greyfriars, Newgate of a widow Elizabeth Sharp to a George Appletree on 3 October 1808. She might or might not be Edward's widow.

All of the above leads me to believe that Edward died between 1805 and 1808 although I can't find a death/burial. The records for CC Greyfriars were partially destroyed in the blitz in WW2. My guesswork is that Thomas' middle name of Swan is Elizabeth's maiden name and that the Swan family worshipped in Greyfriars and that is where the marriage of Edward and Elizabeth took place. It was the custom for a bride to marry in her home church. Edward could have been buried in Greyfriars also and the records for both of these events were destroyed. I have found a baptism for an Edward Sharp in St Sepulchre in 1778. If this is my 3xGGF it would appear that the Sharps worshipped in St Sepulchre(for which the records are complete) and the Swans worshipped in CC Greyfriars for which the records are incomplete. There are Swan families in the previous register for CC Greyfriars but this is too early for Elizabeth.

Without wishing to go on too long I would mention that the same situation appears to have occurred in the previous generation. The parents of the Edward Sharp born in 1778 were Samuel & Mary Sharp(e). There is no obvious marriage for them. That couple have a daughter given the middle name Flower. This leads me to believe that Mary Sharpe was previously Mary Flower. There is a baptism for Mary Flower in CC Greyfriars on 30 July 1745. The portion of the Greyfriars Register up to 1754 is indexed and online. The likely marriage for Samuel & Mary would be around 1767-70 in the damaged portion.

Family Search does have some records available for Christ Church, Greyfriars, Newgate, London for the period 1755-1812 but I am not sure if they are complete or only partial as they can only be viewed in a FS Centre or affiliated library and I am unable to get to one.

Any help or suggestions regarding the above will be most gratefully received.

@Kenneth Sharp Have you received any help on your family research? If not, you might want to repost in the https://community.familysearch.org/group/45-england-research group. There might be a community member there more familiar with London research.
