Missing records
I'm waiting on my DNA to come back for ancestry and trying to piece together my tree in the meantime.. however my grandparents died when I was a teen and most of my stories died with them. Myself and others remember my grandmother, Kathryn Neff ( maiden : Catherine Mattox) telling us they were raised by different families.. she had a person she often called mother named Florence medina, etc, etc, brown Smith and one she traces to through the censuses called minnie poling mattox. She was born after the 1920 census and shows up in the 1930 with her. The 1920 census does have browns as their next door neighbor tho and it was taken in fairfield ohio in January, 2 months before she would've been born. She went by brown, her engagement record to my grandfather can only be found under catherine brown and homer neff. I have found birth records for all her siblings, none for her and she is the youngest by 16 years. Her death certificate lists a brown as her father's name and a urigh as her mothers maiden in franklin county, which is a little bit different than the rest but nearby.. I found a record for a katheri brown birth on ancestry for franklin county with mother uhrig for her exact birth date but cant trace that farther? Suggestions or thoughts on how to find these records would be very helpful. I'm having similar issues with my grandfather and curious if its just me, or the stories I've heard are true and I cant trace them.? I was told his birth records burned in a courthouse fire when he passed, they couldn't be certain about his birth year and I can't find christening, newspaper articles etc for him either... even more curious my great grandfather on my grandma's side if I trace the census albert mattox, her father, also uses an alias more often than not, with his wife minnie, stevens instead of mattox. Christening record available though, no reason behind it that I've found or birth record
