When I click on someone's name who provided a source it either tells me what relation they are to me or it says request pending. Does that mean "I" requested or the other person?

There is a third possibility, namely "Request to View Relationship". "Request Pending" means some user has already followed up that third option and asked the target user whose name you have clicked if they would make their relationship available for relationship calculations, but the target user has not agreed. The "some user" could be you or any other user of FamilySearch (apart from the target user).

Once the target user is in the "Request Pending" state, it isn't possible for other users to make a request to view relationship. This avoids the possibility that multiple users could repeatedly and annoyingly ping the target user over the years.
