Two versions of the same document with different information

If you look at the Marriage record(s) for John D Gabbard and Martha McIntosh nee Angel, there are two versions. One has no names for Martha's parents, and on has them written in. One is from the LDS scans and one is from the County scans - it has the names written in - how is this even possible?

How interesting - one lot was filmed in 1969, the other in 1998. It is the same physical book in both filmings because ink blots on the first page of the index for the letter B (images 6 and 8) are identical. However, on image 8 the entry for 501 has been circled while on image 6, 501 has no circle.

It does rather look like the book was a bit more "live" than one might have expected. So maybe something happened between 1969 and 1998 that prompted the update. There is what might be a signature in the righthand margin to the right of Martha's mother's name, as if authorising an update… Fascinating!

the writing on the right margin says Owsley County - i think that is actually the county Catherine Taylor was born in. it was like the form was filled out in advance with 'Angel Lee County' for both of the bride's parents.

Additionally, I've not been able to find this specific record in ancestry.com. I've been looking for info on John Gabbard, my paternal great grandfather forever. Family lore indicated he died before Charles David (my grandfather) was born. As such my grandfather's surname is inaccurate all over his records including census records, marriage records, draft cards etc.. He is either Charlie or David and either McIntosh or Gabbard.

One search on family search and i find 2 versions of the marriage record - i'm excited and confused…

We often see amendments to records. If we're lucky, there will be a margin note of explanation, but not always. The county clerk may have kept a separate record of authorized changes, rather than noting in the same book.
