FamilySearch keeps changing KWCC-Z3V William Henry Flint's mother to the wrong spouse.

BACKGROUND:
My paternal great-grandfather William Flint was married to Charlotte Limb who died in childbirth in 1855.

Great-grandfather William Flint married his second wife, Georgeana Knighton, in 1855. She is the mother of my grandfather William Henry Flint who was born in 1871.

Even with alert note stating that Charlotte cannot be his mother, FamilySearch keeps changing my grandfather's mother to my great grandfather's first wife who died 16 years before he was born. When this change is made, we get the error that his mother died before he was born and our "correct" ancestor line is broken.

**Change log shows the most "recent" times I have had to correct my grandfather's mother
October 2025, June 2025, April 2025, February 2025, June 2024 (2x), March 2024, November 2023 etc.

Today I finally put "step-mother" as my grandfather's relationship to Charlotte Limb even though she died 16 years before he was born. Also, someone sealed him to Charlotte Limb in 2000. Since he is sealed to his correct parents, this probably doesn't matter :-(

Please, how can we stop FamilySearch and other patrons from consistently changing my grandfather's mother to his father's first spouse who died 16 years before he was even born?

@srfs I'm not LDS, so I can't view Ordinance details. If someone has mistakenly performed an ordinance reflecting that incorrect relationship, that may be why the relationship is being changed.

Since this Community has a large percentage of non-LDS participants, we don't cover ordinance questions here. There is a private category for Temple-related questions. https://community.familysearch.org/en/categories/temple

    Hope this helps.

This is not an ordinance problem, it is FamilySearch changing my grandfather's mother to the wrong spouse thus changing our family line. 😊

I understand, but the underlying cause could be that sealing you mentioned.
Also, someone sealed him to Charlotte Limb in 2000.

It can't hurt to try in the private category.

I called FS support and they can see the names of patrons who keep making the changes. My change log just shows FamilySearch as the person making change. Anyway, nothing I can do, except keep changing grandpa's mother back to the correct spouse.

"Maybe" adding grandpa as a step-child to Charlotte Limb, will help … I also added an alert note to Charlotte about her dying in childbirth with her only child. :-)

Hi srfs I know this must be frustrating for these changes. I can see who is making the changes. I would suggest if you can to try a different browser and see if you can see who is making the changes. If so, then you can message the person and perhaps get some clarification. You can also do a clean of your browser.

I don't recommend that you create relationships that don't exist like the step relationship you entered for the first wife. I would consider removing that relationship.

I also can see the relevant users' names. A lot of them are not contactable by chat (may be under 18 perhaps, or have not given their birth date), but one at least does allow chat.

What browser and browser version are you using, and do you have the Labs version of the change log enabled? Do the user names show on other browsers/PCs, or on the mobile app? Do the appropriate users' names appear on other profiles' change logs?

I find it very odd that you can't identify the users, I think we need to get to the bottom of that.

I agree with Wayland, please don't add incorrect information to the Tree.

We have seen this sort of uninformed, uncollaborative, careless, repetitive interference before, hopefully it will stop in time and the relevant users learn to collaborate, and spend their time on more productive family history research.

I removed my grandfather as a step-child (I didn't like putting him incorrectly with Charlotte, either … but figured that might stop anyone from moving him again).

MandyShaw1: YES! I did have the lab version of the change log turned on. I just turned it off and I can now see who made the changes to Grandpa!! I was able to message the patron who made the September change. (No reply yet). As you stated, the others are grayed out.

Wonder who to contact about the lab version of the change log not displaying the person who made changes?

    Thank you so much!

    @srfs

'Wonder who to contact about the lab version of the change log not displaying the person who made changes?'

Bug reporting is one of the key objectives of the Community Groups for specific Labs (those Groups are really collaborative and effective, in my experience) so I'd post in the relevant Group.
