Hi, I'm trying to confirm the birth and death locations for my great grandfather Carl J Carlson ( G7S4-FWY ) . There is a 1870 census record attached that indicates Charles Charlson age 2 in the household of Frank Charlson in Mansfield, Richland, Ohio . I'd love it if this was accurate for my ancestor Carl J Carlson G7S4-FWY . I'm seeking confirmation or the process and evidence that this record is accurate for Carl J Carlson G7S4-FWY .

The record is :

"United States, Census, 1870", FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M6LK-2YN : Thu Jan 09 16:53:49 UTC 2025), Entry for Frank Charlson and Alice Charlson, 1870.

Sorry I'm fairly new here and now see that there is a category called Family Tree . I should have posted my question in category " Family Tree " or maybe " Search " .

    Welcome.
You can hit the flag button under your original post and ask for a mod to move your post, but it's not mission critical.

Based on the information attached to the profile of G7S4-FWY, he died on 6 Nov 1944 in Mansfield, Ohio. The matching Ohio death certificate 70230 lists his parents as Charles and Tecla. Death certificates for an elderly adult are not the best source for names of parents since there may be no one left who knew the parents.
The Indiana marriage record, unfortunately, does not list the names of his parents.

I would suggest verifying that date of death belongs to your Carl/Charles. Most other records show a middle initial J while that death has a middle initial E. I think you need to know that all the records attached to the profile truly belong to that person. Then, the hinting system will have a better chance of suggesting good records.
Also, conducting collateral research can be useful. That means researching the siblings listed in that 1870 census and any other census before your Carl/Charles left the parental home.

    Hope this helps.
