Memories deleted, no notification from Familysearch
Hi.
- I have for several weeks been researching the 44 men who died in the First World War and who are listed on the Woodside and Wallasey Meat Traders Association Roll of Honour.
For example Bombardier Thomas Edwards PQ4R-GY5.
I had 30 names including his tagged on 3 photos of the memorial. Yesterday (17 August), at first the tags had disappeared, although the photos remained:
"We couldn't load the list of tagged people. You can try refreshing the page. If it still doesn't work, please try again later."
Then the photos were deleted from my Gallery. I did not receive any email regarding this.
"All Memories containing personal information about living people (other than yourself) should be set to Private or Private to Group."
All these men died before 1919, they are definitely not living people.
One of the "offending" photos is attached.
If someone from Familysearch reads this, can this be looked into please?
- Also, Private William Hooper PQZC-TPL has been marked "Confidential," so no-one else can see him. I can't see a valid reason why this was done. I emailed Familysearch on 11 August on this point and have not heard back.
The main purpose of this research is to give the IWM full details of the men on this memorial at https://www.iwm.org.uk/memorials/item/memorial/62613 so they can hyperlink their existing list of names to their own respective pages, e.g. IWM Lives of the First World War for Thomas Edwards at:

Thanks for any assistance you can give.

@MartinCoogan - If your William Hooper is 26836 of the 8th Bn, Cheshire Regiment, then I suggest that the reason for his disappearing into the Confidential pot is that he was killed in Mesopotamia (at least, his memorial is at Basra in present-day Iraq).
For reasons that FamilySearch have consistently refused to explain (beyond a suggestion that it is to protect his current relatives) certain areas of the globe are automatically Confidential - to be precise (not that FS have confirmed this, IIRC) the Muslim world is automatically confidential.
Now, there is logic in wanting to protect present day relatives of former Muslims who converted to the LDS church but whenever we see this, it's in the context of soldiers born in the UK who died in a war zone. In other words, people who do not belong in the Confidential pot that has never been explained.
Given that this seems to apply to many (though not all, I think) British soldiers who died at Gallipoli and in Mesopotamia, it is clear that the confidentiality algorithm is not fit for purpose.
It may be that what is needed is to give a birthplace of England, etc, to inhibit the disappearance but I have seen no confirmation of this - indeed, I wouldn't be surprised if FS refuse to confirm this because it's confidential.

Hi Adrian, yes that's him. I have now left the death and burial places blank. I don't know whether it will now resolve the Confidential marking. His birthplace was already entered as being in England.
Thanks for your input, I appreciate it.

William Hooper is now no longer confidential. Familysearch replied to my email query today. I asked what the cause was, they replied an error was made.
