How to find ancestors
The site was amazing over 20 years ago. I found lots of people and contacts. Everyone should have their own tree. Too many changing info that has no backup and it is not correct. Many families have same names in multiple generations. Hard to find census! Shame if was the best

You can do a few different things to have a Private tree along with your FamilySearch tree.
In FamilySearch, deceased family member information is generally publicly visible to all users, according to FamilySearch. This means anyone can search for and view details about deceased individuals on the Family Tree. However, information about living individuals is kept private and only accessible to the user who entered it
Family Tree protects privacy by limiting who can see information about living relatives through the use of private trees and family group trees.
- Private Tree. You can enter your living family into your private tree, which only you can see. The system hides records that you create of living people from everyone else, including the people themselves and other family members. When you are using Family Tree, this tree is called your "FamilySearch Tree."
- Family Group Tree. You can enter your living family into a family group tree and share access to the information with them. When you are using Family Tree, this tree is called by the name of its family group.
You can create both a private tree and one or more family group trees as needed.
Or you can try one of the FamilySearch experiments called CET. You can find all of the available experiments on FamilySearch at Family Search Labs.
FamilySearch is enhancing its tree building features.
For years, individuals and organizations have uploaded trees they have personally compiled to a space on FamilySearch called Genealogies. These trees were searchable, but they could not be edited—not even by the person or organization that shared them. Now FamilySearch is enhancing our systems so that users can upload, build, and modify these trees.
