Why is my name showing up as having added someone who I didn't add?
I kept coming across this issue today when I was cleaning up some people. I glanced at the My Contributions page, and there are about 40 people whom I didn't add. When I went to a number of them, they had me as the contributor. Nope. First of all, when I add people, I have names, dates, locations, etc, plus sources. It's like they're place holders.
It just seemed a bit odd, and I had never run across this in the 26 years that I've been using FS. It almost seems like folks have gotten sloppy. Maybe that's my ego talking since I've been the family genealogist since my grandmother handed it over in 1980.

@SandiBohle If you post the ID numbers of a couple of these people, maybe there is a simple explanation of this someone here could explain.
@Johannes572 What icon are you referring to? What device are you using? Computer? Tablet? Phone? Where did you used to see it? There are icons all over the place in FamilySearch.

I just scrolled through the "Change" column under My Contributions / My Changes and every "Person Created" in the last two weeks was indeed created by me.
I assume this is where you are getting those "about 40 people…" from. Otherwise, I'm sure you'd be already aware that a simple edit can make it appear (from the profile pages) that we were the user who inputted the data, rather than the original contributor, whose name gets "overwritten" by ours in certain circumstances.

Thank you!!! I too have been cleaning up my tree to find that people are adding family members who live halfway across the country with no regard to dates or places and have even added second sets of parents. I welcome well sourced help but spend more time fixing these messes. Even direct messages to stop do not get responses or results. Ay Caramba!

I kind of feel bad when I update the information on a person and my name replaces the name of someone who put a lot of effort in finding that person. Sometimes I am only submitting the standardized dates and places. I do think that if see show all changes the original person does show up. In the end it is just a job we do to acknowledge the person who lived on this earth. A lot of hands sharing in the joy of that persons existance. Keep the love.

@jamiehadlock I can understand your feeling. However every contribution is attributed to the user that made it. You can see them in the Persons changelog. The last contributors name is the one that shows in the recent changes, this way you can easily see who made the last change.
