I have a daughter from my first marriage, and I'm now divorced. My new wife appears in my family tree, but my daughter no longer does. How can I make her appear again?

When a person has multiple spouses, the "preferred" spouse will be shown in the Tree view (for all of the Tree views except for Descendancy). And for the Tree views that show children, the choice of preferred spouse will affect which children are shown. The spouse you choose for any person in Family Tree as the preferred spouse affects how Tree views are shown (it has no meaning beyond that).

So in your case, you'll have to decide whether you want to choose your first wife as your preferred spouse so that you can see your daughter as well, or choose your second wife as preferred so that you see her (but not your daughter at the same time). You can change your choice of preferred spouse as often as you like, either on your person page (using the SET PREFERRED button), or on most of the Tree views (using the Alternative Spouses button on the spouse's tile).

Another option that could work in some cases is to add your daughter as a step-daughter of you and your second wife. That could be appropriate if your daughter has a significant relationship with her step-mother (e.g., is being raised by her now). If you do this, and set your second (current) wife as your preferred spouse, then you would see your daughter on the Tree. She would appear as a daughter of your second wife, not of her biological mother, but you still have the option to change the preferred spouse as often as you like, if in some cases you want to see your daughter with your first wife.

Another thing to consider is what is the relationship between your daughter and your new wife. For example, if your daughter is a minor and living in the household with you and your new wife, you could add your daughter as a stepdaughter to your new wife. If on the other hand, your daughter lives with your first wife, you would want to follow the advice given above.

Hi, you have two choices. On the portrait view which you are using, you can select the multiple spouse icon and select the unknown spouse option which will then show your daughter. See screenshot. This icon is on the block showing your wife.

The second option is the add your daughter as a child of your second marriage and set the relationship to Step. First of all, add your daughter as a child to you and your current wife. Here are the instructions.

After you add your daughter to you and your current wife, mark the relationship as biological for you and step for your wife. Here are the instructions.

    Hope this helps.
