It would be nice if we could correct simple errors made in reason statements for merges, so they are not misleading for others.

    @Genelle Sears

    Your best approach would probably be to Suggest an Idea concerning this. If you do that, please post a copy here so that other Community users can see the Idea and duplication is avoided.

    While it is quick and simple to choose one of the four default reason statements at the conclusion of the Merge; you are free to Add additional narrative to the statement box prior to confirming - you may even delete it all and make your own complete reason statement.

    @Jack Hern I think the idea here is to be able to correct incorrect/unclear reason statements /post/ submission (where realisation dawns too late).

    For after the fact Merge notes, there is unlimited space for narrative in the Collaborate —> Notes section.

    I will often leave notes here after a big Un-Merge project; or notes to specifically not merge with so-and-so. This is important when it effects new parentage, etc. - so folks don't just casually restore the previous status for unsubstantiated reasons.

    Commentary in this section are easier to find/see than the actual reason statement for the merge.
