I don't know if this is the right place to ask my question but I thought I would try.

Does anyone know where the 15 December 1859 Upshur, West Virginia death date for Mary E Pfost LKFZ-CY4 came from? I've searched all over and can't find the source anywhere. After much research I actually believe she died in about 1811 (definitely before her husband John Strader LRV5-T1V married the 2nd time in 1817). I've seen two Mary's that are daughter's of Valentine Pfost and I'm starting to believe they are the same woman. It looks like there may have been some old typo's in their dates that caused part of the problem. Dates are similar all except the death years. Days and Months are very similar. Too much of a coincidence to me. I made collaboration notes to state my findings and opinions. I've been working on this John Strader because so many people confuse all the men named John Strader. I've looked at all the merges I could find on these people and made some corrections but nowhere does Mary's 1859 death date show a source. I would be happy to discuss this with anyone that has done a lot of research on these people. Thanks, Anita

    Hi @Anita1973

I suggest you post in Southern States Research where helpers familiar with the area may be able to assist.

For the record - West Virginia didn't exist in 1859, so the death would have been in Virginia at that time.

    Good luck with the search!

If you go into the standard Change Log (not the new one that needs to be turned on in the Labs section) for Mary and filter by Death you can see who entered that death date:

If you click on the user name the pop up card opens and you will be able to see your relationship to this user (if you have relationship viewing turned on) and be able to send her a message through the Chat system.

"L" is the person who originally created this profile on August 13, 2015, and she did extensive work on it that day. Unfortunately, she only put on a few sources:

Even more unfortunately, the Ancestry source consists of just:

However, going to Ancestry via the Search Records link on Mary's profile page and modifying the search to use that exact 15 Dec 1859 death date I get this:

The six trees for Mary Wolf show:

Glancing quickly through the first couple of pages of those 2004 trees for Mary Pfost shows a variety of death dates:

So to answer your question, that 15 Dec 1859 death date came from a selection of Ancestry Trees for many Mary Wolf/Post/Pfost who apparently all had the same parents and all were married to John Strader.

Some of those ancestry trees actually have sources so you might want to dig through those and see if any of them give the source for that death date.

Here is where I put in a plug for one of the greatest advantages of FamilySearch Family Tree. Since there is only one profile per person, if you can determine Mary's actual death date and source it well, that information will be correct and available for all other researchers to find in that one spot. The chance of that correct information making it into all of her 2010 trees on Ancestry is pretty much zero and if you did have a tree there that you put it on, the chance of anyone else ever seeing it is also pretty much zero.
