How do I merge two different tree members because they are the same person?
I have a relative that shows up in the tree twice but under two different names. His name was changed during childhood so early records show one name and later records show the other. I am having difficulty attaching later records to the earlier version of the person listed. What is the best way going about merging these two to become the same person? William Pollard was born as William Marvel Williams. The name change can be witnessed by looking at the 1910 and 1920 Census records. It doesn't appear to allow me to attach a screenshot.

How can a census prove a name change?

The persons you are trying to merge have different names and they have different parents. This does not look like a merge situation.

@ECameron27 I'm not suggesting that the Census proves the name change. The family members acknowledged the change in name when they were alive. When the Census records became available, they backed up what the family members mentioned. So one person is showing up as two separate people when in fact they are one in the same. The mother's first name remains the same in the records but her last name changes from document to document. Parts of the household remain consistent, though.
